Ah yes, that's possibly too subtle for me! The email from Octopus describes them as a "Cosy Accredited Installer" - I'd assumed that was what they did everywhere else too.

One installer wanted to replace our toilet/bathroom towel rails to meet the heating requirements of the room. Another said it's not required so long as we state that we understand the rooms might not be warm. Definitely more complicated than it needs to be.

Just so you know, and hot off the press is that Octopus do now do heat pumps in Scotland (I got an email yesterday!)

Some of the family is watching Silo and as I wandered in Peter Gabriel appeared on screen. I'm now drawn in, hoping that Thotch will appear next.

I'm surprised that no-one has suggested creating a nationwide bridge tsar. Aboyne bridge on the Dee has been closed for 3 years - its "novel construction" only became apparent once it was too dangerous to remain open. I just went down this rabbit hole: www.racfoundation.org/research/eco...

I went to see Michael Shannon and Jason Narducy doing their tour of REM songs. A great night out, and honestly for me as good as seeing the real band in the nineties. Small venues and devoted fans, highly recommended. They'll be back next....

Is it commercial quality? No, but there are areas that simply aren't addressed by commercial software.

Here's another answer. There's a load of folks who are just making apps and plugins for themselves. The Double Tap podcast, aimed at blind and visually impaired, has been dominated by vibe coding for a few months. It's enabling people with literally no programming experience to create solutions.

Fingers crossed that Finnish guy knows that the person who first broke the cuneiform code in 1872 while studying the tablets at the British museum was a currency engraver named George Smith. He was an obsessed amateur; the Smithsonian wrote about him. www.smithsonianmag.com/history/epic...

I recently bumped into my primary school teacher from 45 years ago. We were a small class (12) and we used to all fit into the back of her old ambulance. A week learning to ski, hobbies every Friday afternoon (golf!) and the whole school off up the hills behind the village for the day.

I am currently at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival doing my new show JUPITER. It is a story about a time when I was an estate agent on the planet Jupiter. It is on at 1pm every day until August 30th. Thanks to anyone who has been. Here is my flyer.

My grandad used to grow his own tobacco and dry it in one of the rooms of his house. The smell was amazing, as was the fact that you could grow it in the north of Scotland.

I think that live streaming would also be problematic and that's a very common use case for visually impaired users e.g. www.bemyeyes.com.

The only holiday abroad we had when I was young was a week camping in Brittany followed by a week camping in the Dordogne. I went back with my family a couple of years ago, and it's still great. The cave painting sites are mind blowing, especially with an extra 40 years of life.

I loved the supermarket tortilla in Majorca. Cut a slice and stick it in the microwave and the oily potatoes ooze out - so tasty. Apparently they sell them in UK supermarkets, but I don't imagine that they're half as good.

We missed a train by seconds and because of the reduced timetable it was 30 minutes until the next one. It was like a recipe....30 minutes at 40 degrees, and then turn it up to 50 for 12 minutes.

We've just got back from a fantastic train holiday to Istria partly inspired by seeing your journeys. Sadly it ended with a plane from Paris last night, but the memory of the RER D yesterday is quite literally seared into my memory.

I live near Glasgow and have grown accustomed to taking weather warnings with a pinch of salt. However, due to long time booked train tickets I ended up on the RER from Gare de Lyon to Gare du Nord yesterday around 4pm. I may never go South again.

Exactly, and if you live to over 80 there's a fair chance that when you were young you also knew at least one person over 80. And even if I don't live to 80 I currently still have that connection back.

Yes it is, there are even 5x5 video walls in some places with a Brightsign behind each. A little care has to be taken if stretching a single video across multiple screens, mostly accounting for screen bezels, but it works very well. Separate videos on each player also works well.

Dave Craig @unbalancedaudio.com · 30/04/2026
I'm particularly happy to see Brightsign players being used second hand, especially for such a great exhibition.

Dave Craig @unbalancedaudio.com · 30/04/2026
Glad to hear it's working well, and surprised to see a Brightsign in my social media! I wrote much of its video playback software until I retired a couple of years ago. We had a lot of artists using it for exhibits and have had videos looping for hundreds of days uninterrupted.
