It kills (or at least greatly diminishes) the minor league system which has been a vitally important part of smaller city economies for well over a century. Ends up making professional baseball less accessible, which will, in turn, make the big league clubs less money.

Indiana was settled south to north until about US 30. It’s at that line where you start to see Indiana be more settled and influenced by immigrants from Eastern Europe. And the KKK had an iron grip on Indiana in the 20’s. Check out “A Fever in the Heartland” by Timothy Egan.

Martyrdom comes with the territory of being a Christian clergy person. We don’t say it out loud, normally. It wasn’t a part of my ordination vows, but giving your life in service to Christ and Christ’s church will always come with that risk. We’re just not used to that risk in the US.
