are you sure it was a bug? because looking at the same straight laps 44/45 LEC post overtake also only reaches 305 km/h and it looks like HAM might've been deploying his energy differently + the lack of slipstream. we have seen drivers with empty batteries bc of how they use it why make it a bug?

the places where these cars lose their time isn't really on the straights. at least not in China. nor is there any more lifting.

I get that this is about the clipping and hitting the top speed earlier on the straight. if we compare ANT 26 to 25 and PIA 25 (pole) ANT gains about 2/10 on PIA and 1/10 on himself. braking zone is excl. bc ANT 26 gains even more there. so this is faster on the straight.

Um akshually @umakshually.bsky.social · 14/03/2026
interestingly ANT actually stays on the throttle longer than he or others did in 2025. and I get that this is probably about the clipping but like if you look at the speed trace you see that they just hit their top speed earlier than they used to. and idk why that is supposedly inherently bad.

fucked up telemetry data happens all the time but it happening at the same spot for the same PU manufacturer over multiple laps is interesting. it doesn't have to mean anything because a lot of the data was fucked but it sure looks interesting. heres laps for the rest to compare

ok let's include all the Merc powered cars atp.

I saw that Fred suggested that there may have been an issue with LECs hybrid deployment and I would say that it does kinda look like that to me. (I know nothing for the record) but HAM is consistently ~15kph faster on the entire back straight + the lack of deployment to the finish line.

I plotted PIA and VERs full race sim from yesterday (day 2) afternoon. the track temp is taken for VERs run but PIA was a few minutes later so I would say it still gives enough rough info. Only in and outlaps are removed for obvious plot reasons.

Damn if only I was more shameless I could pretend to have insider knowledge considering I did an internship at AVL (years ago) and still know people there (very different department).

clearly not a significant reduction in speed as I have been told

Um akshually @umakshually.bsky.social · 30/10/2025
How is it irrelevant to the incident if it's the reason it happened in the first place? Also Lawson slowed down significantly, he didn't steer towards the marshals who were moving away from the direction he was driving to, and had he not slowed enough he would've gotten a penalty don't you agree?

Accurate representation of the data the F1 teams have about their cars and the publicly available telemetry data. You can still tell it's a horse but you can't truly know any details

LEC definitely did hold up NOR and I don't think anybody is arguing against that. But considering the VSC was in lap 6-7 and the "DRS train" ended with the VSC and didn't start up again where instead the gaps between HAM and PIA kept increasing saying LEC held the whole pack up is wrong. That's it
010
Um akshually @umakshually.bsky.social · 20/10/2025
bc I am bored another viz this time with VER as the reference that shows the same
000
Um akshually @umakshually.bsky.social · 20/10/2025
I think saying he held the pack up is overstating the situation a bit when you actually look at how the gaps between the drivers developed throughout the race. bc nothing changed when he pitted and was no longer in the way. Esp. PIA was equally holiding RUS up bc he couldn't get close to HAM
230
Um akshually @umakshually.bsky.social · 20/10/2025
more comparisons! HAMs last lap is also removed here. PIA really was nowhere in comparison.

Um akshually @umakshually.bsky.social · 20/10/2025
Since the Ferraris were on opposite strategies I compared their fuel corrected* medium and soft stints. And the real difference in the race was the medium stint where HAM had more deg much earlier. Their soft stints are honestly surprisingly similar (HAMs last lap was removed for viz purposes)

Sorry to point out a factual error but according to the official FIA documents available on their website only HAMs car was disqualified for plank wear. LECs car was disqualified for not making the minimum weight requirement. A fairly simple thing to fact check.

As late add on to the radio discussion from yesterday I finally had a chance to check the technical regs and if there are any radios not Broadcast it's FOMs choice the teams have no say

FYI here you can see him both press the button and the light going on while he speaks and then he presses the button again because he is done. And this also shows the time delay.

it didn't happen but at least Ferrari asked. because that is what you usually do. you let one guy try and if it doesn't work you swap them back (but this is giving Brazil 22 RBR 😂 even though swapping now would've been harder) but I guess it is also a lession learnt for Leclerc

Um akshually @umakshually.bsky.social · 19/09/2025
Charles and Lewis having different approches when it comes to at least some corners makes for very funny looking time deltas 😂 (also the gps data availble to us is not accurate enough to truly draw too many conclusions this is interpolated. but in this case it looks like it fits with the pedal data)

Um akshually @umakshually.bsky.social · 19/09/2025
I really need to add how much faster the hypothetical lap actually was. anyway, caveat for HAMs hypothetical lap: he got a massive tow for his fastest S3 which is where those -0.217s that the hypothetical lap is faster come from. for LEC the hypothetical lap would've been -0.048s faster than HAM

Plot showing a bar chart visualising the gaps to pole of the qualifying session of the hungarian gp 2024. with a second subplot showing the time left on the clock in the Q1-Q3 sessions when the lap was start.

As the cherry on top of the absolute shit cake my last few months have been my parents had to put down our cat today. He was 16 and had a wonderful life but it just sucks extra because he is the only one I didn't get to say goodbye to.

Um akshually @umakshually.bsky.social · 05/04/2025
in more Ferrari related news it was also the same chicane (16-17) that allowed LEC to get ahead of RUS. However in this case it was LEC having a better exit out of 17 that made he difference

Um akshually @umakshually.bsky.social · 05/04/2025
it's even more jarring when you compare the two McLarens. NOR was up almost 3 tenths going into turn 16 and then just loses pretty much his entire advantage and only just barely manages to stay ahead.
121
Um akshually @umakshually.bsky.social · 05/04/2025
This really should've been such an easy Norris pole but he majorly messed up turn 16-17. he essentially loses everything on the entry into 16

Um akshually @umakshually.bsky.social · 14/03/2025
I'm asking because (I am bored and) when you compare the 2 McLarens they're similar until the DRS opens and NOR is faster, if you compare them to LEC then PIA is faster until DRS opens and they are roughly the same, whereas NOR is consistently faster the entire straight.

And the fastest laps of FP2 the little black dots would be their ideal lap time if it was different from their actual fastest lap time
060
Um akshually @umakshually.bsky.social · 14/03/2025
also for FP2 a little overview over the race sims of some drivers. there isn't too much to interpret or to say other than that Leclercs average is influences by those two much slower laps. But as I did not watch I do not know why they were slower.

in honour of the first FP2 session of the season I actually made some plots so here is an overview of the FP2 session. If you zoom in close you can see who set what lap time when

this is an example of which part of which track ended up falling into what cluster. the shitty table is just the means for each cluster for each track. but this at least shows it's not entirely arbitrary 😂
