Clive Summerfield @uktoday.bsky.social · 04/10/2026No surprise. It's where a lot of the Corbyn crowd went after he was ousted. Same people, different party. The ideological equivalent of SSDD. 030
Clive Summerfield @uktoday.bsky.social · 30/09/2026As former head of Google's EMEA business and operations, and a Google employee since 2007, of course he'd support AI. Had a low opinion of him since his appearances before the Public Accounts Committee back in 2012, defending Google paying almost no corporation tax. Expect more AI shit from the BBC 020
Clive Summerfield @uktoday.bsky.social · 30/09/2026I think a suitable punishment would be to strap them in a chair with PIL's Order of Death played on endless repeat. 011

Clive Summerfield @uktoday.bsky.social · 27/09/2026For Farage to have been warning within Parliament for months he'd first have to actually be attending in the first place. 010
Clive Summerfield @uktoday.bsky.social · 27/09/2026He hasn't been in Parliament enough to have offered any warnings this year. 110
Clive Summerfield @uktoday.bsky.social · 26/09/2026New build starter homes? That's optimistic. In fact the whole policy is optimism over reality. So Burnham believes this will give builders the "confidence to deliver the high-quality new homes the country needs". I've got a bridge he can buy... 010
Clive Summerfield @uktoday.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Culturally ignorant. Though I can well believe that he's in favour of slavery, treating women as chattels, significant Greek influences, and polytheism amongst others. Credit to their engineering and science though, but I don't think that's what he meant. 000
Clive Summerfield @uktoday.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Ah, Nick Buckley. A charity worker who displays distinctly uncharitable attitudes towards many less fortunate. A classic example of the ongoing devaluation of the honours system. Never knowingly right, but always Right. 051
Clive Summerfield @uktoday.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Argh. I'd forgotten Owen was still a thing. And still as cataclysmically wrongheaded as ever. 010
Clive Summerfield @uktoday.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Oh, they're charging him with not giving them his Phone PIN. Under the circumstances, that charge under RIPA could really be painful. If they use the National Security angle that'd be a custodial of up to 5 years. 100
Clive Summerfield @uktoday.bsky.social · 25/09/2026It would have been braver still if he'd played ELP's version 🤣🤣 010
Clive Summerfield @uktoday.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Don't forget the "legitimate concerns" angle that keeps being trotted out 🙄 010
Clive Summerfield @uktoday.bsky.social · 22/09/2026That'd be the PoS that he was going to manufacture in Wales until he decided that rather than support British industry like the patriot he claims to be he'd instead make it in France. 010
Clive Summerfield @uktoday.bsky.social · 22/09/2026My son says exactly the same. Opportunities are virtually zero, and these people should be a future. Instead of which there seems more concern over 400 workers from a dying industry. Madness. 010
Clive Summerfield @uktoday.bsky.social · 22/09/20262023 - 2024 almost 4,000 roles cut. 2024 - 2025 over 13,000 roles cut. 2025 - 2026 15,000 cuts proposed 2026 - 2027 I dread to think Son is just finishing his PhD at Lincoln Uni, where the sciences have been decimated, with School of Chemistry amongst those closing. 2225
Clive Summerfield @uktoday.bsky.social · 22/09/2026I'd agree with "consequential", but to label his term in office as very good relies upon glasses so rose-tinted as to be completely opaque. Repeated top-down changes causing cycles of admin confusion; cancelling "Building Schools for the Future"; alienating every union. All these are "very good"? 150
Clive Summerfield @uktoday.bsky.social · 21/09/2026It was one of many dealbreakers for me, too many to mention, but anyone who looked at that and still voted Leave definitely fitted either or (in a lot of cases) both categories. 010
Clive Summerfield @uktoday.bsky.social · 21/09/2026"Fully understand" is key. I use AI tools to generate JSON parsers. I understand how to do it, but the tool will do it quicker and I can review the tool's output. A torque wrench is more accurate than tightening a nut by feel, but if you don't understand why you use one then get away from my car. 020
Clive Summerfield @uktoday.bsky.social · 20/09/2026Let's not forget the way he switched production of the Ineos Grenadier 4x4 from Wales to France. 020
Clive Summerfield @uktoday.bsky.social · 20/09/2026It's Matthew Syed so undoubtedly. Would betting a fiver that he mentions Popper at some point be the safe bet I think it is? 121

Clive Summerfield @uktoday.bsky.social · 14/09/2026Reading the posts left me nodding wisely in agreement with Einstein regarding the Universe and human stupidity. I don't think AI will be the death of the species, it'll be too many people like hailey. 020
Clive Summerfield @uktoday.bsky.social · 13/09/2026My understanding is that the latest proposed amendments (July 2026) to the Representation of the People Bill reference the Rycroft Review findings and would backdate to March 2026. That would cap both donations at £100k commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-bri...commonslibrary.parliament.ukRepresentation of the People Bill: progress of the billThis briefing tracks the progress of the bill to introduce votes at 16, automatic voter registration, tighten the rules on political donations and allow bank cards to be used as voter ID. 151

Clive Summerfield @uktoday.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Theoretically, yes, the market is liberalised as there are numerous providers. In reality when it comes to billing practices it feels more like a cartel. 030
Clive Summerfield @uktoday.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Privatisation for you. In addition to the MML, it took 21 years to electrify GWR from London to Cardiff, and places like Oxford, Bristol Temple Meads, Exeter/Plymouth and Swansea not even planned. Likewise ECML to Hull, Aberdeen and Inverness not planned. 130
Clive Summerfield @uktoday.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Currently just 38% of the UK rail network is electrified. To hit targets we'd need to electrify 500km/year between now and 2050, but currently manage barely 200km/yr. That target isn't even 100%. And not just branch lines, MML electrification from Wigston to Sheffield (137km) may never happen. 120

Clive Summerfield @uktoday.bsky.social · 08/09/2026My memory says 18 addresses from switch to the program counter each followed by depositing an instruction. 12 switch settings for each. Clive Summerfield @uktoday.bsky.social · 08/09/2026Indeed. I remember thinking 16K was massive. Reminds me of when I got my first 1GB hard drive, a Digital DSP3105, the first 1GB drive available in the UK for less than £1/MB. I stared at the empty space and thought I'll never fill that... 🤣 130
Clive Summerfield @uktoday.bsky.social · 08/09/2026Blimey. I used to be able to load the RIM through the front panel on a PDP/8e. Sadly it's been so long now that even muscle memory has gone. 120

Clive Summerfield @uktoday.bsky.social · 04/09/2026I hope so. Ritchie's film exaggerated some aspects, especially the action elements - it wouldn't be a Ritchie film otherwise - but on the whole was fairly faithful to the intent of Postmaster. I worry that Fortitude will play up too much to Popov as a proto-Bond, and I say that as a Cage fan 😎 110
Clive Summerfield @uktoday.bsky.social · 04/09/2026Genuinely trying to work out how I feel about this. One the one hand it looks like bonkers fun, and on the other hand I've read a lot about both Fortitude (North and South) in isolation and as part of Operation Bodyguard and fear (based on that trailer admittedly) Hollywood bastardisation. 110
