Grey-bearded data wrangler, book devourer and recent convert to cat adoration. Unpleasant habits include a fondness for Prog Rock, possibly the result of a chaotic meeting of noodly tunes and Cthulhu's noodly appendages.

After 50 years of Labour control, Barnsley now has a Reform majority. They've FA so now they get to FO, but then they voted massively for Brexit, so Turkeys and Christmas springs to mind.

This is the best thing I've heard today, and possibly this week. Seems appropriate that the Great Old One should be mentioned on a Friday the 13th. Cthulhu ftagn! Iä! Iä!

Historically Labour hasn't done too bad with Home Secs; Jenkins, Straw and Blunkett were all solid, reasonably progressive occupants of that office. Mahmood by comparison seems determined to plumb previously unseen depths of regressive policies, as @danielsohege.bsky.social so clearly highlights.

25 years in the company of Mo, Bob, and many others both light and dark. Arrived and read, a fitting conclusion courtesy of @cstross.bsky.social, though hopefully not our last visit to the Laundryverse. A belting end to an entertaining journey.

I'll hold up my hand and plead guilty to being a sucker for a trash Nic Cage movie. Post a movie you like with a terrible Rotten Tomatoes score

Curzio Malaparte's "Coup d'État: The Technique of Revolution" was written in 1931, and is his reflections on modern coups. As Ken has noted, it is very prescient regarding events in America right now.
