The Luddites WERE right. It’s the people who think they were opposed to technology who aren’t.

I do worry a lot that these guys are going to try to invalidate the election when their attempts at intimidation fail. On the other hand, these are the guys that planned a strike on Yemen with the editor of the Atlantic in the room, and couldn't paint the bottom of the Reflecting Pool.

I feel like maybe we should be circulating the idea that refusing to accept the results of an election (including refusing to seat elected members of Congress) is treasonous, that treason is punishable by the death penalty, and that live-streaming firing squads is on the table.

Sometimes my wife and I like to send each other text messages as though they’re democratic fundraising messages, and I believe she has produced the jewel of the form.
, it's
and I
have some personal news to share with you.
Being a mom is one of the greatest joys of my life, and I feel deeply that we should have salad tonight
This year has been challenging in many ways, and I have immense gratitude for the kindness and support of family, community, and people like you who have continued to stand by me through everything. It means the world, and I wanted you to be among the first to know that squash is in the oven and kale is in the fridge. As many of you are aware, ve been navigating one of the most challenging periods of my day while waiting for dinner.
Facing baseless federal hunger brought on by not eating since lunch, fighting for the working kids of this country, and now caring for a mean toddler and helping him grow up in a world that isn't always easy. But it has also reminded me exactly why I do this work and who I do it for.
I will never stop working to eat dinner. I will never stop fighting for what is right, even when there is also some feta in the fridge. And I will never stop being so very thankful that you are by my side in this important work and that there is tahini in the pantry for dressing
With love and gratitude,
stop to end

Just a reminder: Tillis persuaded the woman Hegseth allegedly raped to come forward with her story, and told her that if she did, it would sink the nomination. She did. At great risk to herself. Tillis then cast the deciding vote for Hegseth. Because he’s a goddamned coward.

Instead, he reached into his blouse and pulled out a glass jar with a candle in it. He went down on one knee, set it down in the shrine, lit the candle, closed his eyes, and prayed. Then he got up, without a word, went back to his cruiser, and drove away.

He walked slowly towards the group, who glanced up at him and then glanced away. I watched him cross the street and waited to see exactly how he was going to tell this group, okay, show's over, it's time to go home. But that's not what he did.

This was not just "a cop." He was easily 6'3", Black, with a smooth-shaved head and not an ounce of fat on him. He looked like he'd been sitting in the cruiser ironing his uniform, too. He was stone-faced. He was, canonically, the Man.

As I was walking home a couple hours later, they were still there. But there was a new player. An SFPD cruiser had parked on 24th across Shotwell from the group. As I neared, a cop got out.

There's a lesson here, I thought (this kind of introspection being new to me at the time, as I was, I remind you, getting sober) about making assumptions about other people. I went on to my meeting feeling like I might possibly have learned something.

As I got closer, they didn't look any less sketchy. But they were hanging out on this corner because it's where they'd made a shrine to their dead friend. These were some pretty hard-looking men and women, but they were also very much in their own movie. They did not give one shit about me.

A few nights earlier, a gang member was eating pizza at a place on Potrero when a rival gang walked in and shot him dead. On _this_ night, as I was walking down 24th, I saw a pretty sketchy crew of people hanging out on the corner of 24th and Shotwell. So I crossed 24th to get some distance.

I lived in the Mission and, nearly every day, went to the last meeting of the day at 2900, which is a grim, essential little room at 24th and Alabama. Being, you know, a guy, I never worried about how safe it was to be walking around the Mission at midnight. Except for this one night.
