I hadn't been out there since my son was born 14 years ago. I've only gone twice over the past month, but you can feel that the fear and general anxiety (vis the violent settlers) are both greater and more widespread than in the past. Those I trust also say it's esp. bad this year (due to Gaza etc).

Over 70% of Israel agrees. Two problems: 1. Israel sells more arms to the UK than visa versa; 2. Bibi is dragging his feet but Hamas are as well, while also attacking, confiscating and profiteering from aid which enters the Strip. The priority should be a relentless focus on flooding Gaza with aid.

This is tragic. It is not however about video games. When they were around 11-years-old my son and his friends played a huge amount of Fortnight (which, BTW, it's cartoonish and not at all graphic). There was no spike in violent behaviour. This is about mental health.

80 years ago today my grandfather's sisters were liberated from Auschwitz. His parents had never left #Hungary before their free train ride. From the cattle car they saw the views and were enthralled. They went up in smoke. The younger sister, who ran from their line to her older sister, survived.

My grandparents, both of whom survived 1944 in Hungary.

This morning, waking up, half asleep, I thought of Alan Johnston, the BBC journalist abducted in Gaza in 2007 by Jish al-Islam ("Army of Islam", who were actually a hamula/extended family called Dogmoosh). He was freed after Hamas violently overthrew Fatah. They then made the options very clear.
