As the first matches of the World Cup kick off this week we're standing in solidarity with those resisting 🔥 The World Cup has taken football for the people and made it all about profit. But people are fighting back, despite heavy repression they're standing up for their lives

We hope Infantino was happy with all those empty seats in the stadium last night 🙃
Blue background with photo of world cup and text: This year's world cup is predicted to be the most polluting yet. That’s saying something given FIFA’s history of being reckless when it comes to the climate (and everything else!) Their decision to host it across North America's three largest countries - Mexico, Canada, and the USA - means air traffic is predicted to generate 7.7 million tonnes of CO2 (before you even factor in non-CO2!)Dark blue background, screenshots of headlines about how polluting the world cup will be and text: 87% of the emissions are due to come from air traffic as teams, fans, and the media rely on flights to get to matchesDark blue background with screenshot of a headline about how deadly the world cup is. text says: Third slide text: Professor Tim Walters predicts that the astronomical emissions from the World Cup could lead to the premature deaths of around 70,000 people. He has described it as the ‘deadliest sporting event in history’ due to its climate impact. That’s before you even take into account the many other issues, whether it’s the dispossession of local communities or the presence of ICE at the tournament.Blue background with headline that says 'all eyes on the communities standing up for their lives'. Below text says: As usual, local communities bear the brunt. In Mexico City, it’s accelerating gentrification and touristification with local communities being displaced and conflicts over land and water. As the first few games kick off this week, our solidarity is with those resisting who face heavy repression for demanding an end to dispossession

Cutting flights is the fastest way to cut a city's carbon footprint. Just look at Paris: the emissions of the city's airports are three times higher than ALL OTHER emissions from the city combined. Via @transportenvironment.org

A RED LINE FOR AIRPORTS ❌✈️ Aviation is driving climate breakdown, touristification, land grabbing and militarisation. We need a fair and liveable future, rooted in care, not profit. Stop airport expansion. Reduce air traffic. Sign the manifesto: stay-grounded.org/red-lines-fo... 1/3 ⬇️
10 Measures to Stop Airport Expansion & Reduce Air Traffic.

Let's end the most destructive and pointless flights and make way for a fair and liveable future for all.1) No airport expansion: We cannot allow any further airport expansion! The number of flights should be reduced, not increased.2) No false solutions of offsets and distraction by so-called "sustainable" aviation fuels (SAF): we oppose all forms of greenwashing in achieving aviation emissions reductions. We aim at real cuts in air traffic.
3) Ban Frequent Flyer Programmes and aviation advertising: These practices promote growth and are contrary to fairness.

Residents around Amsterdam Airport Schiphol just won an important legal battle ✊ Read the analysis by our member @schipholwatch.nl: schipholwatch.nl/2026/03/11/r...
BIG WIN
for Schiphol residents!
The Council of State has struck down the Dutch government’s previous decision on Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.

The court ruled that aviation policy relied for years on informal, non-democratic agreements instead of the legally required noise limits meant to protect residents.

For the first time in years, noise protection for residents must come first.

❗We know that the United States are completely withdrawing from climate action, but it is still surprising to read in the latest OECD Inventory of Support Measures for Fossil Fuels 2025 that the US has asked for their data not to be included. www.oecd.org/en/publicati... @carbonbrief.org
Note on country coverage: The United States requested that their data be removed from further reporting on OECD’s support measures for fossil fuels. They have thus been removed from this update, including from all numbers on previous years reported in this document. As such, any comparison with previous updates of the Inventory should take this removal into account.
