This sounds like an ideal time to say "well, don't do that, then".

It's strange that these stories are always framed around "you can finally ditch your Myki" as if it's a burden to carry with you. I don't want to "ditch" my Myki. I don't like the idea of waving my credit card around in public every time I board a tram.
Herald Sun: "When concession card holders can finally ditch their myki cards".

To be fair, you have to build the entertainment venue before the housing, or all the residents will object to it.
The Age: "A 5000-seat entertainment venue and a new University of Melbourne campus will be built on government-owned land in Melbourne’s inner-north, under a $7 billion redevelopment that proposes to deliver the music arena two years before the first home."

It was never beautiful. I have a fix. Fill it with trees, tables and chairs, and umbrellas or some other sort of cover. Open up bars in the surrounding area and allow them to serve patrons in the square.

When people here get upset about datacenters, it's "an inauthentic American import" but when the fascists come along with their opposition to abortion, trans people, wind farms, vaccines and facts, it's just "regular mums and dads with legitimate concerns".
Guardian: "Australian politicians and business leaders are arguing that their populace’s growing resentment of AI datacentres is an inauthentic import from the United States."

This is very cool: aus.social/@eliasulrich...
From @eliasulrich@hachyderm.io on Mastodon:

"One guy in #Sweden built a #searchengine to fight Google, and it works.

It's called #MarginaliaSearch.

It runs its own #crawler and builds its own #index instead of borrowing Bing's. It has no ads, no investors, and no loans.

What it does differently: it ranks for text-heavy, non-commercial pages. Personal blogs. Old university pages.

The weird corners SEO strangled. Every result tells you whether the page uses affiliate links and JavaScript, and you can filter them out.

There's an "explore" mode that just shows you random sites from the index. It's open source under AGPL, so you can host your own copy.

It's keyword-based, so don't type a full question at it. Type two nouns and see where you land. Every #searchengine now shows you the same twelve #monetizedpages."
