I can't recall consciously paying attention to the gender of an author, ever. But women are used to reading books by men, about men, just like in every other media. We live in a world where "man" is considered the default; if we were turned away by that we'd have barely any options left.

I'm all for calling attention to her crimes, and I'm also reluctantly in favour of things that prevent him from gaining more power in the future, but the framing of this as "oh no, she's hurting Gavin" (that I've seen from multiple people) is just obnoxious on multiple levels.

This is such a pet peeve of mine, because a lot of the time people will get indignant when you ask for a warning or if you mute it, insisting that everyone has a moral obligation to "bear witness" in order to be informed. I'm sorry, I do not need to see horrific or upsetting shit to be aware of it.

Even though The Marshall Project is publishing within a bleak and deeply heavy focus, they very consistently put out articles that give me feelings in a positive way. I still regularly think about the article they did a few years ago on a death row D&D group and the connection that gave them.

The peninsula is prone to flooding but I haven't seen it that bad in decades. My grandparents had a house there when I was growing up (bought when normal people could afford that) and I admit I miss it and wish it was still in the family, but putting houses there seems like such a terrible idea.

Went out front to clean my birdbaths in the short window between Hot As The Sun™ and darkness and scared off an adult Cooper🪶. When I finished up, I went to the backyard, and scared of the little juvenile male that's been visiting. I am just the enemy of hawks today! said juv. earlier today:

A male juvenile cooper's hawk sits on the edge of a very dirty birdbath, one foot drawn up to his chest, head sideways, streaky chest visible.

I will now defend the filth level in the birdbath: its been too hot to clean them every day and this one gets very dirty because it's under both a tree and a bird feeder. Don't worry, it was cleaned tonight.

Also, this hawk has SEVEN other baths in my yard alone to choose from. It's not my fault he picked this one.

I'm so sorry! It's so hard to lose any bird, but especially if it's one you've built a close attachment to. We lost two of our ambassador birds this year and we have several more getting up there in age, I just really dread when the time comes. It's so heartbreaking, even when you know its time.

I really wanted to be there today for the final walk to the Metropolitan Detention Center in DTLA, but I had to miss it because I had work. And if missing it wasn't disappointing enough, turns out that Ozomatli played to welcome the walkers into DTLA! They are my absolute fav.

This is my fav behaviour from them, how they carefully pick up to weight and evaluate each one to carefully select the "best" one.... .... then they jam it into the planter to cache, and repeat until they're all gone. Meanwhile, crows are like "yes please" and just grab as much as they can carry.
