taking the wrong idea from people saying they want innovation in the games industry.

Imagine admitting that you and everyone you know is an absolutely awful human.

I think when all the tabloids have had their say about how awful “the left” is it’ll turn out it wasn’t a political thing at all, and it’s a more personal motive. I hope her soul is being supported by the sentiments she turned to at the end of her career. Imagine going on the BBC? Sickening.

look, to succeed in British media you’ve got to be a child molester. That’s just the way it is.

the media reacting to this in the same way they react to our continued losses in Eurovision. what could we possibly do better? choose a leader/act that's not complete shit. unfortunately, politics doesn't seem to have a way for decent people to bubble to the top.

After Starmer stating his full confidence in Streeting yesterday, and having previously said the same of Ambassador Paedophile, it does make one question the PM's judgement of character.

It seems the Labour Party is determined to prove they are just as shambolic as the Conservatives were in picking leadership. Can we not have some stability through these ridiculous times?

Is there any way to… make the helicopters louder? Sirens on them maybe?

seeing you praise Ionna is surprising, as the Europe/UK arm of the same group of companies (Ionity) is pretty awful in every respect.

Racism is surprisingly popular, and then they wonder why their support from the none-racists (or ‘functioning humans”) falls to Greens, etc.

always so funny to me when people are like “how am I supposed to explain Gay to my kids?” my kid asks me way harder shit all the time. “why did they build the road this way? why are some people bad?” I don’t know. please ask me about Gay

I saw the Plague Dogs film for the first time in a long time recently and yes... it's much more disturbing; though it's much less prominent in memories than Watership Down. I don't think I ever read the book for that one.

from point one of 'what do we learn from this'; a problem is that google / etc are now putting their generative AI nonsense at the top of search results, whether you want it to or not. so generations who've grown up finding facts by 'googling and looking at the top result' are now being lied to.

Surely you’re known enough that people either like your books or don’t? Do people read Amazon reviews for authors they already know?

why can't we just leave nostalgic things in the past where they belong? why do new ideas seem to be pushed to the sides for regurgitating things past? I guess it's the Bbc execs asking ChatGPT how to do their jobs get 'refresh BagPuss' alongside 'prosecute disabled people for TV license payments'

so, they admit that it's not up to writing the film, even though word generation is what the tech is arguably best at? (and then is still pretty terrible)

Sometimes you can change to a different, cheaper plan and save on cancelling. I did this and then cancelled for a much reduced amount. I’ve wondered how or if they’d peruse someone who just stopped paying.

Agile Development was invented in the Soviet Union.
Shturmovshchina was a common Soviet work practice of frantic and overtime work at the end of a planning period in order to fulfill the planned production target. The practice usually gave rise to products of poor quality at the end of a planning cycle.

So many public services are throwing “AI” at their phone lines in such inept ways, then wondering why people are frustrated when they eventually get routed to a human. I think the companies selling this trash must have great happy path demos and bribes for procurement managers.

It seems like so many plans are happy to begin making the easy part hard, without correspondingly making the hard part easy— so we just end up with things worse for everyone.

I think I'd go with 'E'; not for the don't care part, but the part where it's your feed to do with what you will. If you need to rage one day, rage. If you don't feel like facing the horrors of the world the next, then choose the adventures of kittens that day.

Cloudflare being as low cost as possible with a familiar DNS interface (having used them in previous jobs) and the free, easy mail forwarding really wins it for them IMO for personal projects / helping family manage their sites.

fwiw I tried searching for your podcast on Audible and couldn't find it; can see some other podcasts on there (eg. .netrocks from richard campbell/carl franklin) so there must be some open route onto it.

I don’t use Facebook or Instagram other than to share family photos with family. Every time I open those apps, it’s just rolls and rolls of garbage. I tried looking at threads and it’s even worse than Twitter. Bluesky does seem to just be the way now.

Is that what feeds into Audible’s podcasts, or is that a separate thing? I can imagine it’s a vestigial thing for Amazon before Audible became the monopoly they’ve made it.

I know your work most from Warcraft and StarCraft, however the first thing of yours I read back in the 90s was your 7of9 Voyager novel that I found when visiting my parents house and was surprised at the name, then went on to read your other Voyager novels.

I wonder if there's a big difference between what people are using, and what people say they love? Surprised that the full-fat Visual Studio doesn't get as much as VS Code.
