Same vibe for me, but it was moria. I played it enough that people could tell by the sound of my keyboard when I was playing it.

embrace gawk. gawk > awk. in fact it has mostly already won with `awk` being aliased to `awk` on most systems. ( sorry, i'm feeling really silly atm )

Umm maybe. At the least, good modern agents raise areas that could be problematic.

On reflection, intersection would be good but I think I really want tensors

This hit hard. It ties in strongly with my current train of thought: what is the cause of a problem vs what is making the problem painfully obvious

That's insanely chilling. Especially with the litmus test of "s/AI/<whatever>

Ironic that this was posted on the platform that finally let me feel that I was free to engage socially with people I found interesting and enjoyed interacting with. Yes, it takes some work but you can't expect the machine to do everything and still be in control

I think this is a good way to separate genuine AI issues or benefits from political, social, capital, and power issues we already had.

There is a lot of pro and anti AI discourse happening. No matter which side you fall on, I invite you to participate in a thought experiment. Substitute "AI" with "Accelerator". How much still holds true?

That's a bad idea. As my teens taught me from drinking far too much goldslauger mixed with mountain dew, mountain dew is bad bad bad. In fact, all soda is bad. Alcohol is still great, of course.

One of the best pit experiences I had was when a beetle was knocked off someone's shirt onto the ground. I went to guard position and several people did in response but were obviously puzzled as to why. That gave me a chance to scoop it up and move it to safety. The pit loved it and went crazier

Yeah, we were able to waste much more than that cleaning up human generated shlock.

This was working with tsc as is, but it was a lot easier and performant my fork with error objects.

TypeHoles @typeholes.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
A lot of tooling is much easier to develop when you don't have to parse error messages and then pick through the concrete syntax tree to find the relevant nodes and types. You can use existing tooling by translating objects to common formats like safir

TypeHoles @typeholes.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
An error is an object, with the error id and ids to map back to the types/nodes/etc involved. If you extend the TS API to allow querying those IDs, you enable a lot of functionality. Goto definition in error messages is very handy.

Oh yeah, did some 140 hour weeks when I was that age. It was the constant stress that was the real killer. Really 50 hour weeks with the same stress is almost as bad now

wow, I thought my team was fairly unique. It was pretty crazy having to jump into unfamiliar code bases and team + cross team dynamics and get results quickly. I didn't even know what language I'd be using from week to week, much less styles and frameworks. Bet you have some stories

This one is showing parsing a text file for an interaction net. Stepping through the parse results line by line was very helpful for getting a mental model.

I found a few demo vids, but no projects in a state to create them :(

Ha, we tried to officially create an "on-demand" team but the politics made it impossible. That was the final piece to realize that missed deadlines, broken releases, etc were mostly sociopolitical problems so my boss went shadow.

I think the resulting syntax did pretty well at ergonomically embedding effectful functional programs in TS, but of course it was only useful for things that could afford to be slow and memory hungry. I did consider an emitter with eval to run efficiently, but that of course is beyond my adhd

TypeHoles @typeholes.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
As the name implies, it was meant to slow things down. I was trying to implement interaction nets and faced 2 problems stateful imperative style was a nightmare for implementation I couldn't get a mental model of the evaluation. I made a functional dsl to let me do a visual trace of the execution.

Lol, they're just aliases. I was thinking more like the Haskell operators, but yeah they suck :) GitHub project is out of date and probably borked.

I was there under the guise of a database consultant, but almost all of the problems were social and political. Occasionally some redesign of the code was needed and sometimes I even optimized the db access. Weird role for a nuero spicy introvert

Fixing disaster. Often joining teams with failing projects for 1-4 weeks to identify the causes and at least start them on resolution. Lots of smoothing ruffled feathers and establishing good communication. Adding counter pressure to perverse incentives.

I may have found it. This should give an idea of the style until I find time (motivation + adhd focus) to fix up the repo
export function traverse<U, V, A>(
   shrink: (x: U) => [U, A],
   expand: (x: V, a: A) => V,
   isEmpty: (x: U) => boolean,
   empty: V
): ProgramI<U, V> {
   type US = [U, V];
   const _traverse: () => ProgramI<US, V> = () =>
      lift( ([xs, acc]: US) => {
           const [newXs, a] = shrink(xs);
           const newAcc = expand(acc, a);
           return tuple(newXs, newAcc);
      })
      .if( ([xs]: US) => isEmpty(xs),
          $$(_traverse),
          lift(snd)
         );

   const prog = _traverse() .o (lift((x: U) => tuple(x, empty)));
   return prog;
}

of course what is on my github is a weird broken state of the project and I can't find either the local project or the sample project that used it :(

TypeHoles @typeholes.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
Not generator based. it builds run time representions of programs via a CPS style and some methods on the returned objects. You can then execute them with an effect. The motivation was applying a delay and render effect so I could slow down evaluating interaction nets for visualization

TypeHoles @typeholes.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
Ooh yeah, I should get lethargica back to a working state and make a playground. It's a ridiculous DSL for creating effectful functional programs that abuses the hell out of TS to get good typing.

TypeHoles @typeholes.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
That looks interesting. Is there a repo or a write up on it?

Would we be better off with something other than a binary tree? What considerations would make you choose a b-tree vs a n-ary tree vs a rose tree?

I just don't understand leetcode interviews past junior positions. The value of mid level and above engineers is mostly what and why. With AI, the how is even less important. I don't care if you can invert a tree. Is inverting it a good idea? Can you amortize the cost of inverted traversal?

I'd love to work with Jake Bailey. Anderson seems like someone I could learn a lot from. Maybe I should get back on the hobby project to create error objects instead of string errors.

I'm looking for remote work as well, but pretty bad about maintaining contacts so I'm just hoping for luck

TypeHoles @typeholes.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
Yeah, it feels like if you get an interview on a cold application it's because they're desperate ( in the fill it or lose it phase ) and even then you might need a lot of luck or something crazy about your resume to get it in front of actual human eyes.

Ooh idea. What if we could create ala carte feeds by union and intersection of feeds? My "for you" feed is great, but sometimes too broad now. "For you" & "quiet posters" might be on point

My job title was "database developer" and then "data architect". Actual work done: 5% database dev, 10% tooling, 10% mentoring and classes, 70% sociopolitical rescue, 4.9% research, .1% legal review.

Measure and report savings, productivity increases, defect reduction, etc. Give it a fancy name. The same things needed for your performance review make good bullet points for your resume. Sadly, it doesn't help most places 😕

Schwab is running ads on the theme "filthy comfortable" . I find the whole concept viscerally disgusting. Being able to live comfortably should be normal or at least a positive aspiration, not disgusting. What's really killing me is that this is normalized enough that it's a selling point.

TypeHoles @typeholes.bsky.social · 29/08/2026
Often the cost of fixing the code was already minuscule in comparison to the cost of the process to acknowledge, prioritize, approve work, approve release, fight for limited release windows, etc etc. AI reducing code costs to nothing changes nothing. And then there's the political costs...

Right. Roasted broccoli is so much better. I like to toss mine in chili oil, sometimes with fermented black bean. The stems are great roasted too.

Ha, genres are blurry as hell and genre purists seem high on their own methane. I recognize a lot of what stims me in the anthem track. I'm curious how you feel listening to it at 1.5x or 2x speed
