This guy sounds like quite a character! Whether they compete directly or not, sounds like a fun company to follow. Thanks for looping me in!

I was really excited to read that a company (Rocket Lab) wants to compete with SpaceX and Bezos, but their problem is that the founder looks like Syndrome from the Incredibles. (It's a total non issue, but it's an uncanny resemblance for sure)
A picture of Peter Beck, Rocket Lab's founder and CEO, as pictured by Bloomberg News

I want to leave Google Photos. The one feature I can’t give up? My wife and I have a setup that auto shares photos of each other and our kids. If I had that somewhere else I would switch. Ente is so close!

I'm not going to lie, it's also hilarious given that if you take the White House tour today, and look at the artwork on the walls, there are a bunch of historic gold-framed paintings. Next to them are plain canvas prints of Trump with a flag painted on his face.

@ente.io I have a question maybe you can help with. The "killer feature" for photos apps for us is auto-sharing photos with a family member in them. If, say, my wife and I both use Ente, and want to auto-share albums of pictures we take with the other in them, can that be done with Ente?

There are only two kinds of books: those that start with a map, and those that don't.

Thank you! Seems to check all the boxes: - For a great cause - Sparks great conversation - Can be read by my 6 year old - Good build - Possibly screen printed by Australian break dancers???

That's unfortunate! I have only read a few of yours, and it was my favorite. I remember loving the character development during the story.

I forgot to send to remind my children that it's St Patrick's day, so they all have gone to school without wearing green. I'm afraid they may not come back in one piece.

Apparently Magpies and Crows Are Using "Anti-Bird Spikes" to Make Their Nests
Birds often incorporate human-made materials while nest building, but a new study shows European corvids are taking the idea to the extreme.

Lots of the posts online are so bad in this area - they seem to think I can send soup in my kids lunch box. They don't have a microwave! Their lunchbox has to be able to go upside down and not ooze their lunch out!

Tyler Jones @tylerjones.dev · 08/03/2025
For the last few years, my kids have packed their own lunches. Lately they've grown tired of it. In an effort to give them a change, I've offered to make their lunches.

So lesson learned - hazelnut coffee is for people who taste black coffee and their thought is "I wish that tasted more burnt"

Well, it strikes me that I've been pretty quiet on social media for a while. To be honest, at times, I've wondered why I should even post. I feel like social media contains so many words, so much content, that surely nobody wants to read what I have to say, right? Oh well, one must try.

This holds up. I had to re-read the last 50 pages of IF, and I still was a little lost at a few moments at the beginning of OS. OS picks up almost like a continuation (which is fine!) but unlike TV, there's no "last time on Fourth Wing"

Tyler Jones @tylerjones.dev · 28/01/2025
Ok, for context did you scream into the void at the end of IF? I'm starting Onyx Storm today - my partner got our copy last night at a book event!

I'd love to see this one in person. It's cute, but 166" is really short! (I think 2 feet shorter than our Model Y)

I've been lurking around on Bluesky for about two months now and have all but entirely left X. I should probably start posting on here. I'll probably post about software engineering, tech, local NC issues, climate change, and probably other stuff too.

What were your feelings about it? Where I ended up is that it has a lot of promise for specific apps. Depending on your user patterns, business logic, and usability requirements, it’s the best way to build your app. The drawback is that most of the tools are for building new apps

Is that because of the prevalence of microphones and speakers? I can imagine that previous to those two, you could only provide a good experience for those who could fit in a smaller room with the band.

Not sure they're my absolute favorite artist, but it's a core memory the time I visited a friend who was an acoustics major. They had made their own 26" subwoofer. They played Muse - Hysteria and cranked it all up. It was a transcendent listening experience.

I'm really not surprised. We are proud Model Y owners, and we love our car. But given Musk's large exec payouts, we feel like our money is funding political nonsense. Moreover, his statements indicate that Tesla's mission is not as climate-focused as before. I hope our next car is a Rivian

I ordered stamps to send out Christmas cards this year. Apparently it's really hard to have USPS deliver their own stamps? I'm in NC, and they were shipped from Kansas City. They're still not here, 6 days later
Shipping history of stamps I ordered. Item started in Kansas City, MO on Dec 5 and is in Washington DC on Dec 11.

Not a Rivian owner (yet) - what is the charging experience like? Does RAN work as well as a SuC? I imagine that a lot of folks have to rely on other charging networks - are you able to get by with choosing one or two while travelling?
