I was sorry to hear from the SIAM UKIE twitter account about the death of Nick Higham, a great numerical analyst and former president of SIAM. I didn't know him well, but he seemed like a very good person, and I learned a great deal from his books and his blogs.
Screenshot of a SIAM UKIE tweet stating "We mourn the loss of Prof Nick Higham FRS, leading British numerical analyst and former president of @TheSIAMNews. Our thoughts are with his family and colleagues @ManUniMaths." and showing a photograph of Nick Higham at a desk
