NEW PAPER ALERT: See our @tylerhaupert.bsky.social article (OA) on how conventional lenders are adapting to wildfire risk (i.e., bluelining), while Fintech lenders look the other way. Human loan officers seem to get it. Fintech masks risk signals = long-term housing problem. doi.org/10.1177/0739...

For folks headed to Chicago this week for the @uaanews.bsky.social #ICUA conference at the Marriott Marquis, welcome to my neighborhood (sort of). Some ideas for any downtime:
For Urban Affairs Association hashtag#ICUAConference attendees coming to Chicago this week, welcome to my neighborhood (conference is ~1 mile south of my building). The weather may be a bit chiller than it has been (40s?) but looks like it will be sunny.

Some nearby places of possible interest:

Chinatown is 1 mile due west of the hotel, and a straight shot on the #21 bus.

The Mexican-American neighborhood of Pilsen is a bit over 2 miles due west, also on the #21 bus.

The Museum Campus is 1 mile due north, including the Field Museum, the Shedd Aquarium, and the Adler Planetarium. The area has nice walking/cycling/running trails along the lake.

The Art Institute of Chicago (my favorite) is about 2 miles due north and an easy 15-minute bus ride up Michigan Avenue. IMO, as good as any art museum in the country. (Don't miss the amazing "Paradise Lost" 100-foot long enamel painting by Raqib Shaw. Awe-inspiring.)

Taking the #3 bus up to the Art Institute on Michigan Avenue and then walking back or partway back gives a great view of Grant Park and the splendid architecture on Michigan Avenue.

For runners/walkers, the Adler Planetarium is at the north end of Northerly Island, which is a nice bit of nature. The Planetarium is 1.5 miles from the hotel.

Or you could run/walk east and then south along the lakefront, including to 31st Street Beach about 2 miles from the hotel.

Just some ideas OTOH.
