Valve says Deadlock is still too unfinished to release publicly, but has hero cosmetics and new game modes in the works

I can't believe Blizzard launched the World of Warcraft: Forever beta without a proper filter for the new dual name system, but at least it's punishing people for abusing it. www.pcgamer.com/games/world-...

Hearing Diablo 5 might ditch monster level scaling as we know it from Diablo 4 sounds really promising as a level scaling hater. www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/di...

"The little pocket of A Short Quest's fantasy world in the playtest is sprinkled with weirdos and secrets. I dueled a guard on a wooden plank at the top of a mountain after he tricked me into dropping some food for his empty stomach. I also recovered a magical ember in a mine and took it to a wizard who let me make my first staff. None of this stuff is tracked in a quest log or highlighted on a map. When you find a strange item, you have to use it to figure out what it does, which can sometimes mean poisoning yourself a little or realizing you can fill up the blue squares under your health bar to cast spells."

I don't share these figures to stoke obsessive number comparisons between very different flavors of shooter, but to point out how different it is for an FPS as crunchy and complex as Wardogs to already have an audience this large.

I reckon it speaks to a shift in tastes that's been in progress since PUBG and Escape From Tarkov came around. Wardogs is neither a battle royale nor an extraction shooter, but the popularity of those genres has set the groundwork for its shared qualities to be instantly accepted—milsim stuff like realistic ballistics, large maps, and restrictive inventory isn't as niche as it once was.

I'm bummed that I don't think The Duskbloods is going to be a game for me at all. I love how weird it is, but it's kind of a mess and definitely not worth buying a Switch 2 for. www.pcgamer.com/games/action...

I do wanna say that I was mostly responding to not finding Vampire Survivors, or games of that ilk, to be very fun *because* of the automation. I wouldn't personally make my argument the way the author does, but I do think this is a design trend worth interrogating.

A translated description of a Duskbloods character datamined from the upcoming network test: "Blood-Eater | Walter The sole survivor of an extinct clan of rare-blood hunters. He uses his extraordinary sense of smell to track the blind spots in others’ pasts. He descended into madness after repeatedly licking the blood spatter from his sister—whom he himself had killed—and still walks the line between life and death in search of pure blood."
