It is a much more realistic and terrifying depiction of the consequences of nuclear war than the US equivalent, The Day After, which was itself pretty scary. Threads stays with you for a long time. It would probably be bracing to show it again for the post-Cold War generation.

Must be very specifically southern. I’ve lived in Toronto for 40 years and in eastern Ontario for five years before that and I’ve never heard that. I do, however, now hear transplanted westerners always saying “hey” instead of “eh”, which everyone knows is the only acceptable way to end a sentence.

Britain is the incubator of English-language usage and slang. A few years from now we’ll all be saying that. (I never heard the phrase “gone missing“ until I spent a few months in the UK in the ‘80s. Now everybody in North America says it without thinking twice.)
