🚨 UPDATE: The U.S. Supreme Court today allowed the Trump administration to resume use of the revamped SAVE citizenship-checking system while the legal challenge continues. Read NPR’s reporting on today’s decision: www.npr.org/2026/09/25/n...

The Supreme Court revives a controversial data system for citizenship checks
The Supreme Court is allowing use of a data system that Trump officials overhauled. The system has erroneously flagged U.S. citizens and a lower court found it violated federal privacy protections.

Well, this just got more relevant. SCOTUS is allowing the federal SAVE citizenship-checking system to be used again while the legal fight continues. Texas already tested it: 2,724 voters flagged. Hundreds turned out to be citizens. “Potential” matters. So does accuracy. #TexasElections

Well, this is timely. 🗳️ Tens of thousands of TX voter registration records were backlogged due to a DPS error—some dating to Oct. 2025. One more reason not to assume your registration is fine. Check it. Verify it. Before Oct. 5. www.votebeat.org/texas/2026/0...

Texas was designed with a “weak” governor. Instead of putting executive power under one person, Texans independently elect several statewide officials. But constitutional design ≠ political reality. Reporting has examined how the governor’s practical power has expanded over time.

You live under TWO constitutions. 🇺🇸⭐ The U.S. and Texas constitutions both divide government into 3 branches, create checks & balances and protect individual rights. But Texas’ 1876 Constitution created a very different rulebook.

Texas legalized hemp in 2019. Then chemistry met the law. Critics say the resulting intoxicating-hemp market exploited a loophole. The industry argues it followed the law Texas actually wrote. So what should Texas do now: ban it or regulate it? #TXLege

🌿 Hemp has been part of the American story for a long time. George Washington grew it at Mount Vernon—not to get high, but as a valuable fiber crop used to make things like rope and canvas. His own records document his efforts to grow and process it.

Texas legalized hemp in 2019 using the federal framework: ≤0.3% delta-9 THC by dry weight. Simple, right? Except delta-9 isn't the only cannabinoid in cannabis. This week, we're breaking down how that distinction became a major Texas policy fight. #TXLege

5/6 You don’t have to agree with every idea taught at a university to defend academic freedom. The question is whether politicians and political appointees should decide which facts, books, patients and perspectives Texas college students are allowed to encounter.

4/6 And there’s already a constitutional warning sign. The 11th Circuit found similar Florida restrictions on university instruction amounted to unconstitutional viewpoint discrimination. Texas Tech disputes several allegations. Now a federal court will weigh Texas Tech’s policies.

3/6 It also alleges: → Professors were barred from teaching Plato’s Republic and Ta-Nehisi Coates’ Between the World and Me. → A health sciences instructor was told not to use the word “disparity” while teaching documented differences in health outcomes. These are adult students

2/6 The complaint alleges: → Medical students couldn’t participate in or observe care for transgender patients—even when they sought treatment for migraines, hypertension or cancer. → A Holocaust course risked losing core status if it taught about gay & bisexual Nazi victims.

1/6 What does censorship at a Texas university actually look like? According to a federal lawsuit challenging Texas Tech policies, professors say the restrictions have reached medical training, Holocaust history, health disparities—and even which books can be taught. 🧵
Graphic titled “Academic Freedom: Too Controversial for a Texas College Classroom?” highlighting allegations from a federal lawsuit against Texas Tech. Four examples include restrictions involving transgender patient care, teaching about gay and bisexual Holocaust victims, use of the word “disparity” in health sciences, and teaching Plato’s Republic. Bottom text reads: “These are adult students. This is higher education.” The graphic notes that Texas Tech disputes several allegations.

Climate policy isn't just about 2050. It's about what happens the next time the forecast changes. Extreme weather is a planning test. Good policy uses the best info before disaster hits. Bad policy waits for the press conference after. Policy is prevention.
