Columbus didn’t “discover” America. Indigenous civilizations thrived here long before 1492. His legacy includes enslavement and violence—not heroism. This Indigenous Peoples’ Day, let’s honor the communities, cultures, and contributions that endure today. Teach the truth.

Well, this just got more relevant. SCOTUS is allowing the federal SAVE citizenship-checking system to be used again while the legal fight continues. Texas already tested it: 2,724 voters flagged. Hundreds turned out to be citizens. “Potential” matters. So does accuracy. #TexasElections

Texas was designed with a “weak” governor. Instead of putting executive power under one person, Texans independently elect several statewide officials. But constitutional design ≠ political reality. Reporting has examined how the governor’s practical power has expanded over time.

You live under TWO constitutions. 🇺🇸⭐ The U.S. and Texas constitutions both divide government into 3 branches, create checks & balances and protect individual rights. But Texas’ 1876 Constitution created a very different rulebook.

We warned about the signs of Christian nationalism. Now let’s look at the policy. Bible-infused curriculum. Ten Commandments mandates. Religious discrimination concerns. And a new Senate committee studying religion in public life. This week, we’re bringing Texas receipts. 🧵

Texas legalized hemp in 2019. Then chemistry met the law. Critics say the resulting intoxicating-hemp market exploited a loophole. The industry argues it followed the law Texas actually wrote. So what should Texas do now: ban it or regulate it? #TXLege

Texas legalized hemp in 2019 using the federal framework: ≤0.3% delta-9 THC by dry weight. Simple, right? Except delta-9 isn't the only cannabinoid in cannabis. This week, we're breaking down how that distinction became a major Texas policy fight. #TXLege

Remember this? Last December, Texas universities were already experimenting with AI to review course materials. Now, as academic freedom faces new challenges across Texas, it’s worth another look: AI can scale the review. But who decides what it’s looking for? #AcademicFreedom #HigherEducation

Texas Tech isn’t alone. Professors have now sued the Texas A&M System over restrictions on what can be taught about race, gender & sexual orientation. Two university systems. Two lawsuits. One question: Who decides what adult Texans are allowed to study? #AcademicFreedom

1/6 What does censorship at a Texas university actually look like? According to a federal lawsuit challenging Texas Tech policies, professors say the restrictions have reached medical training, Holocaust history, health disparities—and even which books can be taught. 🧵
Graphic titled “Academic Freedom: Too Controversial for a Texas College Classroom?” highlighting allegations from a federal lawsuit against Texas Tech. Four examples include restrictions involving transgender patient care, teaching about gay and bisexual Holocaust victims, use of the word “disparity” in health sciences, and teaching Plato’s Republic. Bottom text reads: “These are adult students. This is higher education.” The graphic notes that Texas Tech disputes several allegations.

Christian Nationalism can sound abstract—until you see how it shows up in our schools, government, and communities. That was the focus of our Faith, Freedom, and Democracy panel. We’ll be sharing clips from the conversation over the next few days. Take a listen. 👇 #DefendDemocracy

History is not a flashcard. The American Historical Association warns TX standards risk gutting critical thinking for rote memorization. TX Const., Art. VII, Sec. 1: "general diffusion of knowledge" means thinking — not just memorizing.

They kept the conflict. They cut the contributions. Texas students could learn about Islam through conquest and violence — while Muslim contributions to algebra and astronomy were removed. That’s not balanced history. That is a filter.

Real patriotism doesn't mean treating eligible voters like suspects. Election security matters. So does protecting lawful voters from fear, confusion, and bureaucracy. Voting is not a loophole. It is the point.

The 14th Amendment was not a loophole. It was a correction. After slavery, America had to answer who counts as “We the People.” Birthright citizenship helped move us closer to equal citizenship under the law. Real patriotism defends that promise.

Climate policy isn't just about 2050. It's about what happens the next time the forecast changes. Extreme weather is a planning test. Good policy uses the best info before disaster hits. Bad policy waits for the press conference after. Policy is prevention.

Corpus Christi's water emergency wasn't solved. It was postponed — again. Reservoirs: ~8% full. Permits: unresolved. June 2 vote: delayed. Planning can't wait for a crisis. Art. I, Sec. 27: you have the right to show up before the next delay.

Corpus Christi may lose emergency groundwater access — because a neighboring town is allegedly holding it for a data center. 500,000 people. One aquifer. No confirmed deal. This is what happens when growth comes before water planning.

A viral story claimed a Texas children's hospital was secretly performing surgeries on minors. The whistleblower was indicted. The charges were dropped. The hospital paid $10M and denied wrongdoing. And the "surgeries"? Not what was claimed. Swipe to see what the investigation actually found. 🧵

Texas health care policy is not abstract. It shows up when a child needs insurance, when premiums rise, rural hospitals struggle, when doctors leave, and pregnant patients are told to wait. Let's ensure a system that protects Texans and prioritizes care over politics.

The TX Railroad Commission doesn’t really regulate railroads anymore. It regulates oil, gas, pipelines, mining, and natural gas utilities. This office affects energy safety, pollution enforcement, abandoned wells, and the infrastructure Texans rely on. Boring name. Big power.

A primary election is where voters choose who represents a party in the general election. If you skip the early rounds, a lot of the biggest choices are already made. Democracy works best when people show up at every stage — primaries, runoffs, local elections, and the general.

Public schools still carry Child Find obligations — even after public dollars move to a private school. Before accepting an ESA, ask: What services will my child actually receive, and what rights might change? That is the voucher fine print. #TexasEducation

The Houston ISD takeover is not staying in Houston. TEA replaced HISD's elected board in 2023. Now Houston-linked leaders are running Beaumont ISD, Lake Worth ISD, and Fort Worth ISD. That's not a coincidence. That's a pipeline.

STAAR is not just a test. It is a contract system. Texas awarded $388 million to Cambium & Pearson to run STAAR testing. Who profits? Who lobbies? Who shapes classroom time?

It decides whether your neighborhood keeps its campus. Whether your child has support staff. Whether public dollars stay accountable to the public.
