Watched Batman Knightfall Part 1 (2026) with @txmepassxs.bsky.social I'm pretty lukewarm on knightfall the comic but the movie managed to take the best parts of it and put it all together in a satisfying way. Very interested to see how the rest of the story is done!

As somebody that's pretty lukewarm on the comic, i think this movie trimmed the fat and focussed on the best parts of the story.

The close look at Bane's origin was very well done and the use of the 90s batman supporting cast was great. Tim Drake my baby boy! I have WAITED so long for a good adaptation of him and from being scared he wouldn't be included or that he would get all uwu, I'm so happy with how he was portrayed here, I hope we get more of his family life and his friends/ girlfriend in the sequel.

I do think there's some corners cut in animation but it was great when needed. Jean-Paul was good to see but I feel his status quo in this was rather happy hazardly placed in, it'd have been cool if we got a sword of Azrael short before this but I hope it can be explored in the future parts.

I noticed some bad language used to describe mental health but as it came up a good amount of times it feels to be intentional particularly with the Bruce and Shondra dynamic. Also changing Bane's motivation from being Bat-focussed to Wayne-focussed was an interesting choice and felt like they took a few queues from Nolan's take. But he's clearly in the wrong instead of making good points but then killing a bunch of people.

Also the lack of Bird and the other Bane henchmen was honestly good for me cause it focusses on the singular strength of Bane's character instead of it being undermined by henchmen.

This is pure 90s goodness and I love that!

206. KIRIO FANCLUB i went from not being into this at all, to this becoming one of my favourite comedy manga of the year the humour is off-putting, stupid, and outrageous. but once you dig into that emotional core it’s so so good—a tonal slingshot im excited to see how they adapt the anime! 8/10

DNF. A REQUIEM FOR INNOCENCE “fear is a wonderful thing—an incredibly effective silencer that spreads like a plague” i don’t DNF games. i HATE the idea of leaving shit unfinished but holy fuck. i saw the “part ii” title card & powered off my switch ik there’s 10hrs left. atp, idfc.

i started requiem for innocence in june…and i didn’t come back to it until now. mind you, i’ve been busy—i read enough for law school, im miserable enough as is, and my brain is both being moulded and rotting out of my ears.

coming back to this was hell. mainly because i’m playing through shit THAT I ALREADY READ ABOUT IN THE BASE GAME.

is it trying to expand upon scenes? sure. trying is the operative word here. the script still has the same issues as the main game; each scene does not need to be nearly as long as it is.

you are making me read PAGES AND PAGES of dialogue/exposition about characters i DO NOT care about. and for the characters that i did want to learn more from—morgana & jacopo…we get the same shit from them that we learnt about IN THE PAGES AND PAGES OF BLACK SCREEN EXPOSITION DUMPS from the main game. albeit, without a fucking black screen this time, and some dialogue sprinkled in. whoopie.

for things i liked:
- maria.
that should be the end of the list. genuinely, if this storyline was exclusively told from inside maria’s head? honestly, i would’ve liked it a lot better LOL. LMAO EVEN. the head hopping from morgana and jacopo really did not help things out.

i get it. it wouldn’t have wooooorked. especially since this shit is meant to follow jacoshit through his time as lord. i don’t care. I DONT CAAAAARE

- the script didnt have the same anachronistic bullshit that the main game was saddled with.
the joys of new content written in 2018, outside of 2012’s memespeak hell. this freedom did not save it from being overwritten to hell and back

- what i heard of the ost was good. not as memorable as some of the tracks from the main game…plus i was so over it, i was listening to my own music nine times out of ten as i played. oops. don’t care. i’ll listen to it on spotify on my own time. next

- most of the cgs were nice. compositions were good, character’s didn’t look like they were wearing masks most of the time.

maybe he gets more compelling in the last ten hours. tbh i haven’t seen how he went from jac in the slums, to the jaded lord that gets pitchforked. but i don’t really want to atm. i saw more than enough of my local italian dipshit and his eventual remorse in the main game. i don’t need him to “show me the world.” i need him to show me why i shouldn’t punt him down a flight of stairs.

- the script

boy howdy. i thought shit would be better, but it’s just as overwritten as the main game

there was a point during the interlude (right before i dropped the game) where the lord and ceren were talking about how he ruled through fear and how he was a tyrannical sycophant—

but then he repeated those same lines again. almost bar for bar. not even ten minutes later

the notes about fear were real good (see main post). the repetition was unnecessary.
this happened throughout the Entire Sequel Story. there would be a really good line said and then it would be bloated through repetition with similar language in a different order three times in the same conversation. if you don’t have anything meaningful to add, DONT SAY ANYTHING AT ALL

mind you, icr there being a great deal of hard hitting lines/concepts from the first half of this story in the first place. the main point of the script was to bloat the black screen exposition from the main game—no time to make things pretty or overly interesting, I GUESS

- the midding secondary cast

some people might’ve cared to learn more about the lord, gatien, & ceren. i did not. they weren’t in the main game, therefore i knew they were dead. bloated exposition about their bgs offered me Nothing.

they weren’t saying anything or interest, import, or as an appeal to pathos. they just wasted more of my time rather than add anything of value/memorability.

i wished i liked this series and its inclusions more. but theres the stuff in here and the main game that was just…not great. and given how bloated its been?

…it’s a chore to play, and i can safety say that i only continued w it, due to sunken cost fallacy

ppl will say that that if a story left any kind of impression—even through anger—it did its job and it’s worth rating or sharing. i disagree. this had SO MUCH GOOD, but it’s up to the chest in horseshit.

i do feel FOMO about not finishing the game. I DONT LIKE DNF-ING GAMES, even ones i don’t like. but i also don’t like playing/reading through shit while watching for gold.

i am tired of waiting until i like this—until my negatives are outweighed by a sudden outpouring of positive content. by the further i trudge, the more i dislike and the less shiny that gold seems.

my brother looked over my shoulder at my post and said “i thought that beside ‘DNF,’ you had written ‘good riddance.’”

and he’s not wrong.

i’ve read reviews saying that the ideas past this point get real good and the side stories/epilogue are great. and maybe im like that meme of that guy mining, and he stops inches away before the wall of diamonds.

maybe i’ll come back to this game. if not? good riddance to this crock of shit full of fools gold. i have better stories to enjoy

205. THE HOUSE IN FATA MORGANA so. i finished the main game of this back in may. i thought id do a conclusive review once id finished everything. i have never been so miserable at the thought of playing more of a game, and so apathetic while actually playing smtg in my life. good fucking god.

ik media elitists say that this is “the one good visual novel”

…but shrugs man, i have read better. i took major issue w the script—it was both (1) so IMPOSSIBLY overwritten, and (2) INCREDIBLY anachronistic. i’m not getting into translation discourse, because idk the og jp source text (and frankly there’s no nuance to the debates), but WHY was there 2012 meme dialogue in a piece of historical fiction?? the year is 1094 and a character screamed “LE GAAAAAASP.”

one stand out example was that the term “clout” was used in dialogue WELL before it would’ve been coined in the 12th century—that might seem insignificant, but coupled w all of my other gripes, this shit pulls me out of the story i’m already having the hardest time engaging w.

even the term “abigail”—which is how the maids throughout the series are referred to—was first used in the 17th century. yet why was michel referring to the maids in service to the bollinger family as abigails PRIOR TO THE YEAR 1100???

i’m not saying i needed the game to be written w historical dialects. but when we are bopping btwn time periods, and they ALL READ THE EXACT SAME, it’s a problem. the same vernacular was used in 1099 as in 1603, and 1869, and 1707

nvm the overwriting i mentioned. a character will say /the same thing/ four different ways (nearly back to back), and then say it /again/ an additional three times in another conversation, not even twenty minutes later.

had the script been whittled down, there could’ve been room for, say, more substantial audience input/choices—this is a “you get one choice and it leads to the ending” type of game. i’ve played games of comparable OR LONGER length, but it didn’t feel like it, since i had more choices afforded to me. this game went entire chapters (upwards of 10 HOURS) w/o giving me any opportunity for meaningful input. if i wanted that kinda linear exp, i have a stack of novels to read.

i also saw a lot of ppl say that this game is “so yuri” and there’s “homoeroticism” btwn morgana & the maid…but failed to mention that morgana (while she is and has been a ghost for a loooong time) died at 16, but ACTS LIKE A TRAUMATIZED 12 YEAR OLD

additionally, some of the artwork in here is just…really ugly. obviously, some of it is not—look at these covers for the switch rereleases oh my gOD those are gorgeous. additionally many of the clothes and background details are sumptuous. don’t ask me about historical accuracy here (it’s clear they didn’t care about it anyway)

i’m NOT talking about ugliness in the way that “humans wear masks and their true faces are ugly” …those some of those faces…yesh

it’s ugly in how the anatomy can feel impossibly stiff. ive played visual novels that released prior to 2012, and those still allowed the characters more facial & bodily movement. like i prefer jacopo’s dejected/pained character model >> his regular portrait, but the use of the two feels so disjointed

they remind me of the timeskip portraits in three houses—they look SO awkward.
nvm the final door just shrinking down michel & giselle’s artwork where they’re facing straight on to the camera and shoving them in the bottom corner….id rather not see a portrait of them at all rather than how lazy that was

moving on, this game has every known content warning in the book (neutral statement). i saw someone describe it on reddit as “vicious and unrelenting” and…yeah those are apt. but it’s also apt to call it tragedy porn w/o purpose

cws for incest, brutal murder/torture sequences, a character getting locked in what is basically a yandere cage (amnesia is that you?), sexual violence/exploitation, racism and dehumanization, starvation, bodily mutilation, amputation, some kind of period appropriate transphobia (if we can call it that), religious persecution, crucifixion, cannibalism, and more! this is basically if yanagihara’s a little life had a soundtrack attached to it

…and yet, i still Did Not expect to be met w a 22 year old trying to hit up an 11 year old. my bad for not expecting THAT. id like to unsee it tyvm. rot in shit, jacopo

as for a break from the barrage of shit i disliked, i enjoyed (most of) the ost! some of the tracks in there are profoundly beautiful...others overstayed their welcome

many of the cgs were beautiful…despite the flat, “ugly” facial expressions (this is where that sense that everyone was wearing a mask reeeaally came through—it was uncanny). i would’ve LOVED to have HAD A GALLERY in the REMASTER OF THE GAME THAT WAS MEANT TO INCLUDE EVERYTHING. but. alas.

…alas.

i also liked the relationship btwn michel/giselle, and the handling of michel’s plot. i think that his albinism was discussed in a way that really worked for the period, and it was really really interesting to have an intersex protagonist, where that played SUCH a huge role for the character.

what i did not appreciate was the handling of the sexual violence. i felt michel’s was given a modicum of grace and severity (but his Situation w aimee was so wretched to read through, good fuck—unrelenting is one thing, but that section was TOO FUCKING LONG).

in comparison, the ENDING of giselle’s story was fashioned in a way that was so obviously meant to be palatable to the male gaze

you can display the human body naked w/o sexualizing it. duh. but when a character has been raped and her sexual exploitation is used as blackmailed, but you still dress her in an v-neck dress that’s open to the base of her sternum, and you have a cg of her naked w her tits squished up to her collarbone in her hands…

fuck you. i know what you’re doing. its as gross as the shit giselle was smothered/almost drowned w

genuinely, idk what to rate this. the subject matter really didn’t impact me—just the relentless length

it doesn’t matter how good some of this script is. if i’m editing the fucking game as i’m “”playing”” it, that’s not masterful. that’s a first draft
