This is something that fills my mind, it’s incomprehensible that they think we will just succumb to their wills. It has never worked and it will never work. Humans are innately good. Not evil. We learn the latter. Artist: unknown
Black and pink artwork of a black woman stomping on you, the viewer. Her knee high lace up boots have stickers on the bottom “eat 💩 (shit)” and “black panther party (with black panther)” text to the left of her says “YOU CAN KILL A REVOLUTIONARY BUT YOU CAN’T KILL REVOLUTION”

Current reads: The Ministry for the Future by Kim Stanley-Robinson It’s kinda scary reading your future. One thing that really has hit the nail on the head is how narcissists are so fucked in their heads that if they believe they’re going to “die” then they will kill everyone around them. Hmmm 🧐
Audio book cover with white text “The ministry for the future a novel Kim Stanley Robinson New York Times bestselling author ” overlayed of a silo like tunnel pointing up to a blue cloudy sky with an airship flying by. At the end of the tunnel is a figure standing in shadow.

April reading wrap-up (a little late whoops): I actually had a good month. ‘Pemi Aguda’s Ghostroots blew me away with every story. Shoko’s Smile was another close contender. My main goal this year is to add more non-fiction this year. Expand my critical thinking. #booksky #readingispolitical
Background a dreamy looking photo of pink cosmos. Heading has a smiley face with closed eyes and hand written font saying April reads - all in white. Bottom of post in plain white text @txjes

Below is 3x3 grid of book covers with type of book on left side and star ratings beneath. Text is white that looks hand written.

1. The country will bring us no peace by Matthieu Simard (Paper; 3.25 stars)
2. Ghostroots by ‘Pemi Aguda (Paper; 5.00 stars)
3. The Husbands by Holly Gramazio (Libby; 3.50 stars)
4. Shoko’s Smile by Choi Eunyoung (Kindle; 4.50 stars)
5. On the calculation of volume III by Solvej Balle (Paper; 4.00 stars)
6. The dawn of everything: A new history of humanity by David Graeber and David Wengrow (Audio; 4.00 stars)
7. The mother tongue: English and how it got to be that way by Bill Bryson (Kindle; 3.25 stars)

This is not new news. We’ve known for 50+ years how to do this… the fossil fuel industry have spent billions of $$ to create dissent and mistrust in renewables for a reason. Cos it is far more economical and ecological to invest in green energies. But they don’t care about that #subwaytakes

Absolutely loved this collection. Choi Eunyoung’s gentle sadness writing style seeps into your pores and you feel everything each of the protagonists feel. This truly surprised me as I didn’t think I would like it. #booksky #readtofreeyoursoul

Just finished: I can’t say I loved this book, I didn’t hate it, it’s beautifully written about the complexities of relationships and how we evolve and change, often adjacent, well, askew to our partners… I suppose I was hoping for a bit more weird. Overall, it’s a lovely book. #booksky #books

Current read - Red Sword by Bora Chung: since this book is based on war where innocent people have to fight in defense of empire and they are merely just collateral damage when they are gruesomely killed, it feels right that I should be reading this in these times.

I’m not sure why I’m bothering posting this. I struggled to read this month. The state of the world keeps me in a perpetual state of anxiety. I guess Klein talks about the shadow world. And Green points out that disease mitigation, or lack of, is wholly due to the global north allowing it to exist.

I didn’t become an informed citizen overnight. It’s taken a lot of reading, for awhile it had to be fiction as my feed was giving me all the non-fiction I could handle. But the fiction always had the ethics, the politics that I needed to keep pushing myself to stay informed vt.tiktok.com/ZSmybgEYA/

That time of month again… last year I lacked woefully in non-fiction - though at the time I didn’t feel the need to be that level of educated - All of it to create new neurological pathways that for decades have slowly eroded away to the neoliberalism capitalism propaganda.

I had many spooky books on my TBR but grief got me good this month. So I opted for library books [mostly] and fairly short weird reads [mostly]. Only one book actually met those two criteria, A Dog’s Heart. You can always rely on Mikhail Bulgakov for the chaotically weird and wonderful. 🐶 😈 🍺 🤬🫠
