Can’t believe that when I was explaining some rowdy teens the first comment was ‘careful they probably had machetes’ cos they were African decent. Like fuck off! They’re typical teenagers who annoy the fuck out of we oldies. So yeah, I signed this GetUp! campaign cos white does not equal right!

Today walking into a shopping centre, leaving the carpark there’s a One Nation supporter handing out pamphlets. Normally I say a polite no thank you to these political advocates and proceed on my way. But One Nation does not deserve this, so I made sure to say “Definitely not!”

There’s gonna be a great migration, but can I pose that maybe the migration won’t be to areas we’ve come to think of as safe… but rather to the regions of the world seen as ‘underdeveloped’. Why? You ask. For that exact reason. You can build better from nothing.

Current reads: The Ministry for the Future by Kim Stanley-Robinson It’s kinda scary reading your future. One thing that really has hit the nail on the head is how narcissists are so fucked in their heads that if they believe they’re going to “die” then they will kill everyone around them. Hmmm 🧐

April reading wrap-up (a little late whoops): I actually had a good month. ‘Pemi Aguda’s Ghostroots blew me away with every story. Shoko’s Smile was another close contender. My main goal this year is to add more non-fiction this year. Expand my critical thinking. #booksky #readingispolitical
Background a dreamy looking photo of pink cosmos. Heading has a smiley face with closed eyes and hand written font saying April reads - all in white. Bottom of post in plain white text @txjes

Below is 3x3 grid of book covers with type of book on left side and star ratings beneath. Text is white that looks hand written.

1. The country will bring us no peace by Matthieu Simard (Paper; 3.25 stars)
2. Ghostroots by ‘Pemi Aguda (Paper; 5.00 stars)
3. The Husbands by Holly Gramazio (Libby; 3.50 stars)
4. Shoko’s Smile by Choi Eunyoung (Kindle; 4.50 stars)
5. On the calculation of volume III by Solvej Balle (Paper; 4.00 stars)
6. The dawn of everything: A new history of humanity by David Graeber and David Wengrow (Audio; 4.00 stars)

This is not new news. We’ve known for 50+ years how to do this… the fossil fuel industry have spent billions of $$ to create dissent and mistrust in renewables for a reason. Cos it is far more economical and ecological to invest in green energies. But they don’t care about that #subwaytakes

The way the Aus gas propaganda machine is trying to scare you that if we tax foreigners entities 25% then the whole of Aus’ manufacturing & babies in hospitals will die. This is a lie. A 25% tax on these exports ~$65B comes back into the community which will go into social services, such as Medicare

Current read - Red Sword by Bora Chung: since this book is based on war where innocent people have to fight in defense of empire and they are merely just collateral damage when they are gruesomely killed, it feels right that I should be reading this in these times.
Tan hand holding book (Red Sword by Bora Chung; translated by Anton Hur), cover has a red sword coming through white clouds, camera flash has made the tip of the sword look like it’s on fire, burning red.

I’m not sure why I’m bothering posting this. I struggled to read this month. The state of the world keeps me in a perpetual state of anxiety. I guess Klein talks about the shadow world. And Green points out that disease mitigation, or lack of, is wholly due to the global north allowing it to exist.
