I’m seeing a lot of people on TikTok blame the sudden drop in temperature and snow on their city/state’s “crazy bipolar” weather and I’m not sure if they realize a cold front swept across nearly the entire Eastern US.

I find myself between jobs, between hobbies/interests, between friends, between acceptance and non-acceptance. I feel unattractive and I’ve never liked the way I look, I can hardly accept being gay, and I struggle to connect with people. I’m an ocean away from the life I want.

I struggle with my identity, possibly more than ever. Over the past year, I’ve worked to deepen my voice and dress in ways I see as more masculine. Exploring masculinity on my own terms has led me to feel free but has also reminded me that I’m still very much “the other.”

Maryland and Virginia had the 3rd and 11th highest median household income in 2023, respectively. Imagine wanting to split from these states and join West Virginia, which was ranked 2nd lowest. This is not to mention the several other quality of life indicators that tell a similar story.
