Apparently I systematically collect series of sci-fi books, I own a truck, have upgraded my home network, stock emergency supplies, constantly maintain appliances, and play cribbage. Which, fair.

That said, it'd be good if it would discriminate between reposts and quote posts. If you want to add something to a repost, I'm in. If I see the same repost from you 12 damn times without anything additional, I don't want to see your constant reposts all in a row.

The "Hide reposts in feeds" setting is a blessing to be cherished.

I bought a loaf of bread yesterday. Store brand, nothing fancy. $5.29. Expensive bread is how empires have fallen.

A swanky couple go see a play at Ford Theater. Dudes walking out of a Boston pub when Paul Revere got on a horse. Or hell, video of everyone walking around lower Manhattan on 9/11. I think that footage already exists...

I read that the oversize hands and dancing were his ideas, so sure, makes sense. Anyway, he was great in the movie.

My BIL was in Special Forces when Afghanistan kicked off. They were given Toyotas, and they 1st exchanged doors, hoods, etc to blend in. They were told to "beat them up". When his unit returned home, the local Toyota dealer was out of trucks within a week.

I was rewatching The Wire not long ago. So many pay phones! Snickers bar burner phones! Pagers! People having to use an actual camera to take pictures! Printed out paper maps!

As my woodsy uncle used to say: "Even a blind hog finds an acorn every now and then." Anyhow, if he's taking full-strength every day, I wouldn't be surprised to find out he has (or has had) ulcers.
030
Bill @twoandseven.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
What I think he means (divining such is no mean feat, so I could be wrong) is that doc told him to take a low-dose baby aspirin every day, and he takes the full-strength 325 mg pill instead.

Bill @twoandseven.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
The full-dose aspirin, I mean. I don't expect him to actually know the strength of the pill he takes, or that a 386 pill doesn't exist.

Bill @twoandseven.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
He's got a huge risk of ulcers if this is true.

The grocery store had knockwurst on sale the other day. Wife grew annoyed by me referring to them as "schnitzengrubers". The eyes, they did roll.

And 95% of the way to being done inventing that universe, the client busts out with, "So, I was thinking about one small change..." which, naturally, changes everything you've done.

My wife is far more media-literate than I am. I asked her if she'd heard the song. She hadn't. We listened to it. I don't know why it's a remarkable song, though I admit I'm not much of a country music fan.

See, that's really good. My dad was born into 1930's West Virginia alcoholism and violence. My mom never tolerated that stuff. So that cycle got nipped in the bud. But not completely. I'm a larger person with a temper like his. I try very hard to be kind.

My dad was not a nice man when he was drinking. And ungodly strong. A kid knew how to hide.

Had a question about this. They were in a diner in Ohio, in the 60's. He got one guy under his heel by the neck on the table, and another strongarm against the window with the fork against his eyeball. Ran them out & threatened the other four. Threw a guy against the diner & kicked him when down.

I hear you on that. We were just getting set up so that almost every dollar coming in paid us. And it was hard work! I once did 118 hours on a 6 day event. Just brutal. But it was $66K. Bought us more gear and some breathing room over summer. I did my best, but nature is what it is.

So yeah: We took a swing and kept hitting for a few years. Then, suddenly, the market was gone through no fault of our own. Thankfully, I didn't lose too much money. Never got my investment back completely as we kept reinvesting. 2020 was going to be like 92% profit. And it was gone within a week.

I actually did a SWOT analysis, wrote out other biz area potential, spreadsheets abt income vs expenditures, etc. It worked. We had all kinds of people wondering how we did the media software in our displays. Customers loved them, was really novel stuff. 100% callback rate. Then, COVID-19 happened.

Oh yeah, he had to have his suits tailored. He had a 34" waist, wore a size 50 coat, and could never buy off the rack. He also had work gloves made for him because none ever fit. He once chased a biker gang away from my mother with a fork. I'm not making that up.

My dad was 6' 2", 225#. He worked as a lumberjack in West Virginia during summers in high school. I once saw him lift up my (grown) brother with one arm, Darth Vader style. He had to have custom watch straps made since none fit him. There is zero chance I could have beaten him.

In 2017, I started a company that did digital signage at corporate events, 2 of us. We were profitable in 6 months, no debt. In January of 2020, I had around $70K booked for spring, fall was packed. Last week of February, literally everything evaporated. String of emails cancelling. Was bad.
