We’re beginning to see cracks forming at the edges of human society from climate change. The next 5-10 years will determine whether we address them accordingly or if nature will shovel the dirt back into our grave, because in my opinion civilization cannot survive what is coming without action.

Assuming that things will be relatively normal, that no concessions or significant alterations to how we do business will need to be made barring token gestures, is in effect digging our grave as a species. Some may say we’ve already placed ourselves in the coffin and closed the lid.

Oftentimes we hear people talk about how things will be in 10-30 years. There’s the newest transit expansion, or who’s hosting the Olympics, or what we expect from the economy, or even things like raising kids. Climate change doesn’t care about any of that. It doesn’t care about anything.

This wasn’t how it was supposed to be… The tragic truth is that, as some of us warned a decade ago, mainstream climate science has turned out to be the opposite of alarmist. It has turned out to be complacent and over-optimistic. Truthfulness - and strategic adaptation - are urgent. (Pse repost.)
