I’ve seen him speak several times & was struck by not only his incredible oration but also his ability to retain & inspire optimism despite the horrendous things he described. He conveyed the tragedy (individual & collective, personal & political) and the hope for better equally effectively

People think this is a past issue but it’s very much current. To see the lengths Nestlé went to to silence a whistleblower in Pakistan after he & I published evidence of their wrongdoings, watch the film Tigers, directed by Oscar-winning director Danis Tanoviç, starring Emraan Hashmi & Mariam d’Abo

It's moves like this that reveal the silver lining of US withdrawal from WHO, even amidst the damage done by this rogue state (there and elsewhere - see recent estimates of 600,000 deaths already due to USAID shutdown).

Shaping the knowledge structure/environment: what research questions get asked, what research is done (and how) to answer those questions, and what findings get published and where/how. All of this shapes preferences and policies that affect the public interest.

Signed As scholars, students, workers & practitioners related to food, nutrition and agricultural work ... we call on the government of Canada to act against Israel’s deliberate and systematic weaponization of food & water against the people of Palestine. tinyurl.com/2zv4yapx @
We, the undersigned, wholly condemn the Canadian government’s response to the Israeli government’s mass starvation and killing of Palestinians in Gaza, as well as the military violence and forced displacement of Palestinians from their land in the West Bank. We unequivocally
denounce the Canadian government’s engagement in the ineffective, undignified, and deadly method of air dropping aid, and call for an immediate escalation in Canada’s response to Israel’s genocide by enacting all economic, diplomatic, and political sanctions available.
Mass starvation is being used by Israel as a tool of genocide against the Palestinian people.
The intentional denial of food and water in Gaza is a crime against humanity, a violation of the international human rights to food and water, and a breach of humanitarian law. As scholars, students, workers, and practitioners with decades of collective experience related to food,
nutrition and agricultural work within our communities, we call on the government of Canada to act concretely against Israel’s deliberate and systematic weaponization of food and water against the people of Palestine.
