Also, absolutely stunning that despite doing half the show on the MI senate race, and talking about affordability, NBC was the only network that didn’t mention today’s horrible inflation news. Even CBS covered it, though of course it led with the Social Security COLA news.

The first 10 minutes of tonight’s NBC Nightly News was basically a free ad for Mike Rogers and a massive hit on Abdul El-Sayed. Bari Weiss couldn’t dream of a network segment this one-sided. Tom Llamas should be ashamed. youtu.be/cNLfEWX77H0?...

This town hall with @jamestalarico.bsky.social on CNN is one of the best and most riveting things the network has done in decades. It helps that the candidate is good at it, but credit to CNN for stepping out of the way and facilitating real discussion. More of this, please, @cnn.com

Not to belittle these celebs' real sadness (and concern over paparazzi culture, which is 10x worse now), but this ET story from a few days after Princess Di was killed is just peak 90s celeb culture cheese, including the Spice Girls wearing black armbands as they performed to "mourn" Diana.

The only thing more depressing than a president of the United States saying something like this in a speech is the reaction from the crowd. They really love that the leader of the free world is a creepy weirdo with no filter. It really is “Network” made real.

Meanwhile, NBC made the raid of Rep. Omar’s home its third story, while CBS put it fourth. ABC put it near the end of the show. But ABC at least framed it as shocking and unusual. NBC and CBS made it seem like a routine investigation into alleged illegal actions by a politician.

Top two stories on all three network newscasts tonight: Person killed on amusement park ride and Selma Blair arrested. (CBS and NBC led with the park accident; ABC led with Blair.) World is on fire —and this is what the Big Three think is most important.

just a casual reminder that inciting violence against his political opponents and others he dislikes has been a core feature of Donald Trump's approach for more than a decade. It is a defining characteristic of Trump and his movement, but rarely centered as such by corporate media.

I'm sure this will get extensively covered by TV news the way every single Gaza protest at a Kamala rally was treated as Bad News for Dems, right? And I'm sure Trump will face blowback for the gross way he responded, as Harris and Biden did when they got snippy.

💯This... Super disappointing season so far, & I've seen some low pts watching since a kid. Very weak lineup of hosts so far: Jalen Brunson, Dakota Johnson, & Shane Gillis & his predictable pervy dudebro schtick. Lorne needs to make a red phone call to Adam Driver & Tom Hanks & hire some new writers.

Shane Gillis was fired from ‘SNL’ for racist and homophobic jokes. Now he’s going to host.
When his use of an anti-Asian slur went viral, Gillis was let go less than a week after being announced as a new cast member in 2019.

Someone needs to do an intervention at SNL. The political cold opens are somehow getting worse. Just having JAJ and Jost do the same tired impressions just isn’t working. It’s no longer that they’re just dull; for me, it’s reached nails on chalkboard annoying.

What I am not in favor of is movie theater chains or network affiliate groups insisting on rules that benefit them, and only them, to the detriment of the studios/networks making movies/shows. It has to be a balance. (Don't get me started on the stupidity of the "next-day" concept for b'cast shows)
010
Joe Adalian @tvmojoe.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
For sure! I would actually like to have rules requiring chains give more time/support to certain movies, or more platform releases. Sometimes movies need time to find an audience; we didn't always live in a world where movies HAD to open in first weekend or perish.

Joe Adalian @tvmojoe.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
Yeah, I also think an obstacle to getting a new TV is, I'll need someone to move it because even though it's obvs much lighter than the old CRT-TVs, it's still a beast to move.

(That said, I have no objection to Skydance being required to have a 90-day window on its films, doing what they said they would do anyway. But that's about putting the minimal amount of regulation around a deal which should never have been approved.)
040
Joe Adalian @tvmojoe.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
But most movies these days are gone from theaters after 6 weeks. Studios should be able to coast on the halo from their marketing and PR efforts for theatricals to push people to buy the film on digital or to watch on streaming. Hard and fast 90-day rules for all movies gives to much power to chains
120
Joe Adalian @tvmojoe.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
What people WILL do is, yes, make a call that a movie is worth waiting for to watch at home. That's been audience behavior since the advent of VHS, and before that, HBO/SHO. I agree that if the window is too short or non- existent, there could be serious cannibalization, esp for "smaller" films
110
Joe Adalian @tvmojoe.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
Studios should and will keep movies made for theaters in theaters as long as they're drawing a crowd. But I truly don't think the average moviegoer decides to not see a film because it'll be available to buy or on SVOD in 2 months vs. 3 or 4. They just don't.
