The respect they show makes me incredibly emotional. Driving in the procession behind the hearse at my uncle's funeral in July, I struggled not to weep out loud during that section when the funeral director walked in front. It really gets to me.

My system: when I see my husband wearing red pants, I know he's near the bottom of the pile. I place the red ones at the bottom, then orange, purple, blue and the green ones at the top. It works really well.

I hate that! I saw Tim Minchin do a work in progress at Cambridge Junction several years ago. The audience were seated on a level floor and somehow a tall guy a few rows ahead of me positioned his head to block my view of Tim. Unintentionally of course, but still irritating.

@daniora.bsky.social I finished reading A Dash of Demon last night. I loved it! So much so that I've been craving pastries ever since. Evidence: two Pistachio Square Croissants that I just bought!
Two square croissants, half topped in green icing with chopped pistachio nuts along two sides at a right angle, in a white paper bag.

Mind blown! I'd never made that comparison but yes, he's totally in the Blessed vein as he gets older.

I LOVED A Dash of Demon by J-F Dubeau and Amy Frost! I didn't want to put it down last night at bedtime, and had a sneaky reading session this afternoon to finish it off. Warmly recommended if you like Horror but you want it cosy. It'll make you crave cake and other pastries!

I'd forgotten about Explorers. Must've been well over 30 years since I've seen it. I agree that the sense of wonder in movies has been lost. Does Hollywood think that kids are more cynical these days and wouldn't go for that kind of magic now?

Listening to the BBC News Security Correspondent Frank Gardner, supplying excellent analysis on the incident at RAF Fairford over the weekend. I hope the BBC knows what a valuable asset to their service he is.

I'm reminded of the impromptu party thrown on my parents' street when the terrible neighbours finally moved out. There was much jubilation and tipsyness.

We have similar: my husband and my brother are both Matthew, which leads to much confusion in the family. Both with two Ts, otherwise we could have One T and Two T as nicknames.

He wouldn't necessarily be in the water to (and I'll use his term here) to "nut" into it. I'm reminded of a scene in The Boys where Homelander did similar atop a skyscraper.

It happens, and get it all the time. I've been called Naomi a lot. Or Melanie, Fiona or Simone. Also my mum used to have a gardening client who she thought was called Jean (she was June) and who thought Mum was Anne (she's Sue). They had a good laugh about it.

People often get ny name wrong, after they've been introduced to me. They grab onto one of the three syllables and go from there. I'm often Naomi, sometimes Melanie or Fiona and once I was Simone.

I met my husband on a dating site in 2008. I didn't have my mental health issues on my profile. We clicked straight away so within the first week, I told him about it and braced for the ghosting. Instead he told me about his health issues and we've been together ever since.

It's been nigh on 40 years and I'm still annoyed with Mrs Bashford for not believing that I couldn't hit a tennis ball straight enough to return it over the net. She thought I was messing around and shouted at me, then made me practice hitting a ball against a wall for the rest of the lesson.

You don’t get a higher-pressure communications environment than the scene of a road traffic accident or when someone’s having a cardiac arrest, do you? In Untangling Emergency, Dr Brendan Fletcher of the East Anglian Air Ambulance explains how paramedics use body language to spread a sense of calm.

The cruelty described here is staggering. You're right. It's not easy reading, but everyone should get a handle on what exactly is going on.

It's a block of scented wax that you put in a ceramic oil burner over a tealight candle and leave to melt so it releases the scent. I was given some and didn't see the point of them.

When the apocalypse finally arrives, we'll be glad of tinned corned beef. Until then, we can be civilised and buy the sliced packets.

I have an umbrella I bought in the Ipswich branch of Monsoon for £15 in 2006 that has lived in every handbag I've had since, and is finally wearing out. Totally worth the money.

One of the things I love best about my home county of Suffolk in the east of England is that there are lot of little villages nestled in folds of the glorious rolling countryside that aren't particularly on the way to anywhere. So I'm currently writing a novelette set in one of them. Hurray!

Listening to people complaining about Macklemore saying Free Palestine on stage yesterday turned my stomach. "Musicians shouldn't talk about politics", according to them. BOLLOCKS. Free Nelson Mandela - Remember that song? Peter Gabriel's Biko? Let's make a list.

Argh, sorry to hear about the brush with death. Glad you're still here! M and I are still around and we finally got married in 2023! We miss the old local. We're usually in the Minster Saturday lunchtime, and often in the West End House Tuesday nights, these days.

We wouldn't be in this house right now if the chap selling it hadn't taken £7k off the asking price when the mortgage providers wouldn't lend us the full amount. We were extremely lucky he really wanted us to have the place. He could've easily got the full amount from someone else.
