I am proud that this government is introducing the strongest online safety laws in the world. New legislation introduced by the government will prevent children from taking, sharing or viewing nude images, helping tackle grooming, exploitation and abuse before harm occurs.

It was a pleasure to join the local members of the RMT to celebrate 150 years of the Union! The railway is absolutely vital to the success and prosperity of Watford, so protecting and supporting rail workers is also deeply important. Here’s to the next 150 years!

For too long, politics hasn’t worked for people, but we are making changes. Launching the National Care Service, to provide free personal care for everyone, is a great example of this. We can hope again!

Today marks the 90th anniversary of the Battle of Cable Street, where hundreds of thousands of ordinary Brits stood together in solidarity to block Oswald Mosley’s march of the British Union of Fascists. The bravery of those individuals who stood up to defend the Jewish community will be remembered.

Today is World Animal Day! To mark the occasion, I visited the Labour Animal Welfare Society at #LPC2026 to discuss the steps we were taking in the Animal Welfare Strategy to reduce harm and cruelty. It was also a pleasure to support Herbie’s Law to end animal testing in a practical, realistic way.

Great to swing by the Labour LGBTQ+ stall at the Labour Party Conference #LPC2026 – equalising access to IVF and fertility treatment for the LGBTQ+ community is a cause I am very proud to support!

Great speech from Andy Burnham at the Labour Party Conference #LPC2026 – it’s fantastic to see the UK's first Prime Minister who is a member of both the Labour and Co-operative Parties!

The cost of living is a problem that impacts many lives. Fair By Design and Fair 4 All Finance are working to tackle the "poverty premium," whereby it costs the least well-off more to access lines of credit and financial products. Thanks to Emma Kosmin for the meeting at #LPC2026.

It was great to catch up with the British Heart Foundation at the Labour Party Conference #LPC2026. One in three deaths globally are caused by cardiovascular disease – groups like BHF are doing amazing work, helping to save lives.

It was brilliant to meet football freestyler and multiple Guinness World Record holder, Jamie Knight. He is doing brilliant work to inspire people to enjoy football. Better get practicing those keepie-uppies!

As I said in my speech at conference, a train without level boarding is a job you can't take. All new Great British Railways trains will be level boarding, as standard. We’re building a railway that everyone can rely on. www.mirror.co.uk/news/politic...

It was a pleasure and an honour to attend the British-German reconciliation reception, addressed by the German Ambassador, Susanne Baumann. I know from the work we have done with friends in our twin town of Mainz, how vital it is to foster comradely international relations.

It’s fantastic that the Pharmacies First scheme is being expanded. Pharmacies can now treat: migraines in adults, complex hay fever in children, outer ear infections in adults, acne, mild skin infections and scabies. This is a great scheme which moves more routine healthcare into the community.

It was fascinating to attend an event with the Performing Right Society (PRS) for Music last week, advocating for artists against copyright infringement, and the threat that AI poses. I am proud of the amazing artistic talent in Watford, and those artists deserve our protection.

I was pleased to host the Fair Parking event in Parliament, ensuring motorists get a fair deal and are not being ‘ripped off’. It’s important that people get resolution to their parking problems. MPs had the chance to raise casework and learn about how the industry works to promote fair parking.

It was great to write about how the ‘Burnham Bounce’ is making things better for Watford residents. This includes cutting bus fares, a boost for local pubs and clubs, and Watford getting one of the government’s 159 new mental health centres. www.watfordobserver.co.uk/news/2653773...

This includes placements at Tesco, Costa Coffee, Boots, Marks & Spencer and more!

It was a pleasure to speak in the Westminster Hall debate about fathers and male role models in society. Supporting fathers, and male role models like sports coaches and youth leaders, is vital for the wellbeing of children, and to support young boys to grow up into well-rounded, happy men.

Since I called out the Liberal Democrat Council, Watford High Street has started to look a bit cleaner and tidier. This is great to see, but there’s still work to be done. I thank the fantastic workers of the clean-up operation, and those who cleaned outside the station!

A real family day out at the Fire Station in the Lower High Street. Have a go with a hose, rescuing from a building, climb aboard an engine and get lifted into the air! Don't forget the Museum too. Loads to do.

Today we remember everybody who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks 25 years ago. Our thoughts are with them and their families. Those shocking events will never be forgotten by those who witnessed them, and we must ensure that we educate younger generations on peace, tolerance and understanding.

I am extremely disappointed to learn that TG Jones (formerly WH Smith) is closing in January, along with the Post Office inside the shop. This is a real loss for Watford. I had a blast visiting Dolphina Gymnastics and seeing the enthusiasm and talent on display. Dolphina is one of many sports clubs in Watford, offering exercise, skills and socialising. In Watford, girls aged 11-18 do two hours’ less exercise a week than boys – this inequality has to be addressed.

Watford Borough Council has joined the National Parking Platform, a Labour government initiative. Car park users and those parking on-street can now pay using a variety of apps on their mobile phone, instead of being restricted to just one. Much more convenient for Watford residents and visitors!
