U.S. Engagement in Africa: Aid, Influence, and Competition, featuring our very own @allisong.bsky.social !
The World Affairs Council of New Orleans (WACNO) in collaboration with the Alliance Française of New Orleans invites you to the Great Decisions discussion:

“U.S. Engagement in Africa: Aid, Influence, and Competition”

DATE: October 15, 2026 | TIME: 5:00 - 6:30 pm

LOCATION: Alliance Française of New Orleans

1519 Jackson Ave, New Orleans

The Great Decisions program is designed to create a more informed and engaged citizenry by bringing people together to learn about and discuss global affairs and U.S. foreign policy. Through insightful presentations and open discussion, our facilitators provide an overview of important international issues and encourage balanced, thoughtful conversation.

This Great Decisions program will focus on U.S. Engagement in Africa.

Africa is experiencing rapid demographic and economic growth, making the continent an increasingly important part of international affairs and U.S. foreign policy.

We will explore two important dimensions of U.S. engagement:

Foreign Assistance and the Future of U.S. Engagement in Africa
How are recent changes in U.S. foreign assistance affecting African partners? Does development assistance remain an effective foreign policy tool?

U.S., China, and Russia in Africa
How are Chinese investment and Russian security partnerships shaping Africa’s geopolitical landscape? What does growing competition among the major powers mean for African governments and U.S. interests?

Speakers:

Allison Grossman, PhD - Assistant Professor at the Political Science Department, Tulane University

Alla Rosca, PhD – Research Associate at Edgewater Research, President, World Affairs Council of New Orleans (WACNO)

To discuss those and other issues, join WACNO’s Great Decisions program on October 15, 2026!

Let's come together to understand, discuss, and contribute to a world better prepared for future challenges!
