look at this beautiful close up of the bubble nebula 🌌

It's the bubble versus the cloud. NGC 7635, the Bubble Nebula, is being pushed out by the stellar wind of massive central star BD+602522. Next door, though, lives a giant molecular cloud, visible to the right. At this place in space, an irresistible force meets an immovable object in an interesting way. The cloud is able to contain the expansion of the bubble gas, but gets blasted by the hot radiation from the bubble's central star. The radiation heats up dense regions of the molecular cloud causing it to glow. The Bubble Nebula, featured here in scientifically mapped colors to bring up contrast, is about 10 light-years across and part of a much larger complex of stars and shells.

Dear diary, today I didn’t get a whole chicken again…

A tuxedo cat with folded ears sits on a bed in dim lighting. Only the white of its chest and whiskers stand out in the dark.

space portals 🌌

The image holds a planetary nebula, a glowing shell of material thrown off by a dying star. A glowing, jagged ring encircles a small central region of greenish clouds, making it appear like a hole torn in fabric. This “hole” is itself encircled by a band of silvery-blue clouds and a larger, fainter, yellow ring of gas. Puffy, smoky clouds of orange and red gas billow out from there into a large oval nebula, fading into the dark background of space dotted by stars.

Almost resembling an eye, a circular region of glowing blue gas is ringed in yellow gas, surrounded by a football-shaped red region. The nebula shines against black space dotted with stars.

This image of the Ring Nebula, taken by Webb’s Near-Infrared Camera, appears as a distorted doughnut. The nebula’s inner cavity hosts shades of blue and green, while the detailed ring transitions through shades of orange in the inner regions and pink in the outer region. The ring’s inner region has distinct filament elements. Stars litter the scene, with a particularly prominent star with 8 long spikes in the top right corner.

$A planetary nebula, seen by the Webb telescope’s NIRCam instrument, against the blackness of space, with points of starlight behind it. The nebula itself is shaped like an irregular oval, with lacy, reddish orange plumes of gas and dust. Further inside the circle, the gas and dust glows bright blue. A glowing white ring separates the red and blue gases. In the center of the rings are two stars, one glowing much brighter than the other, with diffraction spikes radiating out from it.$

TODAY’S NEW HUBBLE IMAGE SHOWS GALAXY NGC 5530 WHICH IS 40 MILLION LIGHT-YEARS AWAY!! 🌌

$A spiral galaxy, seen tilted at a slight angle, on a dark background of space. It glows softly from its center and out to its edge. The disk is a broad swirl of dark-reddish dust webs and sparkling blue patches where stars have formed. Atop the center of the galaxy is a foreground star that appears very large and bright with four diffraction spikes emanating from it. The star is relatively close to Earth compared to the galaxy.$

JWST TOOK IMAGES OF GAS GIANT EXOPLANETS!!! how crazy is it that we’re living in a time where we can see planets beyond our solar system!!!!

This image shows the planetary system HR 8799. The background is black. At the center there is a symbol representing a star labeled HR 8799. The star’s light is blocked. There are four exoplanets, which look like fuzzy dots, pictured surrounding the star. Furthest from the star is a fuzzy, faint blue dot, labeled b, at the 10 o’clock position. At the 1 o’clock position, second furthest from the star is a blueish-white fuzzy dot labeled c. Just below that is an orange dot labeled e. At the 4 o’clock position, still near the star, is another fuzzy white dot labeled d.
