Thought the Project Hail Mary movie was good! Overall, I like the book a bit more, but mostly just because of pacing -- which I'm sure is a tricky task in film adaptations. For me, key plot points had more payoff in the book since there was a little more time for build-up. Still a fun watch 👍

Finished up reading Project Hail Mary. Well worth it! Delightfully nerdy, occasionally humorous, plenty of mystery, tension, and twists -- hard to go wrong with this one! It gets a lot of praise, and I can totally see why! Looking forward to watching this year's movie to see how it compares.

Tried a couple of classic NES shoot 'em ups -- Gradius and Life Force -- back-to-back. And I just gotta say: if you beat either of these games back in the 80s/90s without emulation, know that you have my utmost respect! I had fun, sure, but only because good ol' Rewind had my back lol.

If you're anything like me, you enjoy seeing a new indie, top-down Zelda-like enter the scene. And as it turns out, *two* of them dropped pretty recently: Isle of Reveries & Draco and the Seven Scales. I haven't tried either myself yet, but the mere fact that they're a thing makes me quite happy.

Recently tried out Project Reignition, a fan-made PC remake of Sonic and the Secret Rings. As far as 3D Sonics go, I still find Secret Rings itself very... okay. It's fine lol. Great music though, as per usual. But this fan project *does* provide nice control modernizations & graphical upgrades!

Personal runner-ups for me would probably be Metroid Ravenous and that new Stage Fright game. I don't play Metroid too often, but I always respect when a new one drops. And as far as Stage Fright goes, anything new from the Overcooked devs is automatically gonna get my attention lol.

All caught up on the latest Nintendo news. So nice to see how many of y'all are excited for stuff! I'd say my highlights are Ocarina Remake & Kirby. I'm in the minority that thinks most of the new OoT aesthetic looks pretty good, and open-world Kirby sounds like it could be interesting.

Kept tabs on this indie game for a while, but lost track of its release date. Pleasantly surprised to see it came out recently! Skilled dev of a couple *great* Rayman fangames recently finished work on an original 2D Rayman-like: Connie and the Essence of Chaos! Rather cute & enjoyable so far!

Got in the mood recently for some Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped. Crash 2 is one of my all-time faves, but I honestly can't remember if I ever finished this one, even a casual run (how I prefer to play Crash). So I felt it was about time to compare the two a little more in depth. And so far, so good!

Been reading "Console Wars" lately -- a pretty good book on the Sega/Nintendo rivalry of the 80s & 90s -- and that got me in the mood to do a run of Sonic 2, because why not? I'll go on record with my hot take of preferring 3D Sonic to 2D, but this is still a classic for a reason. A fun revisit.

Recently started the newly released cinematic platformer Lifted. I've heard it's the brainchild of a former Disney ride engineer & I totally believe it. So far it's rather breezy, very charming & visually appealing. One of those games you play for the fun story rather than a ruthless challenge.

Spent the last hour or so trying out some Scott Pilgrim EX. So far it's done a pretty good job making me a bit wistful for 2010 & my high school days, back when the first Scott Pilgrim beat-em-up came out. I love that Anamanaguchi returned to do the soundtrack too.

My early impressions of Yoshi & the Mysterious Book are pretty good. Gameplay loop is definitely different than standard 2D platforming, but not in a bad way. Approach this game with a relaxed, contemplative sort of mindset & the "discovery hunting" mechanic can wind up clicking pretty well.

Rolled credits for Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land. Wanted to fire up something shorter after MOUSE & this was a delightful choice. Kirby's physics always take me a bit of getting used to, but I also come away from his games still having fun. Wonderful graphics & music are the icing on the cake.

Rolled credits for MOUSE: P.I. For Hire. The excellent rubber hose aesthetic & quality voice acting grabbed my attention, then the solid FPS action & mystery that unfolded kept me hooked the rest of the way. Plays a bit like DOOM, just with more mice & cheese than demons. I had a good time with it.

Rolled credits for Resident Evil Requiem. When they said it'd be part horror & part action, I had some flashbacks to awkwardness with RE6. But I gotta admit: this game turned out to be RE at some of its very best. Grace sections crank up the tension & Leon sections are in-your-face fun. Good stuff.

I guess the million dollar question now is do we think they'll retain/refine the real-time battles of Legends Z-A or are we going back to traditional turn-based? Either way, that first impression of Pokémon Winds & Waves was great. And a 2027 release gives the devs plenty of time to cook!

Brought last year's Pipistrello and the Cursed Yo-yo out of the backlog. Well worth it so far, I gotta say! Nails the gameplay of a traditional top-down Zelda but it takes place in the city so "dungeons" are buildings, malls & the like. The yo-yo attacks feel fun & the writing has me chuckling.

Rolled credits on Escape from Ever After. Was keeping an eye on this indie Paper Mario-like's development for at least a couple years & was *well* worth the wait. The visuals, gameplay, music, story & humor all work together in an experience every bit as enjoyable as the franchise it emulates imo.

DuckTales Remastered immediately jumps to mind as one of my all-time faves. WayForward gave the already pretty good NES game such a glow-up. Great graphics, voice acting, *fantastic* takes on the original soundtrack & even added new levels! Good stuff.

The game has made an *excellent* first impression so far! If you're a fan of old-school Paper Mario, or prefer your turn-based RPGs with a dash of whimsy & humor, I can't imagine you wouldn't enjoy this.
