Maybe the most amazing aspect of the Russo-Ukraine War is that Russia is getting backing from both China and the USA, the two largest powers of the moment--and Ukraine could still emerge triumphant as long as Europe backs it stoutly.

Frankly, the bike itself looks very real, the slop breaks out in the bottom close-ups: WTF is this "Control with Elegance" horn?! The look betrays dated training though: new race bikes in 2026 with non-integrated cockpits? Also, an all-Italian bike should feature Campagnolo, not Shimano groupset.

I've read one of your books and found it immensely interesting, it is why I followed you in the 1st place. Sad to see such a descent into argument from authority and spelling nitpicks. And into explaining to programmers who use AI daily, that they apparently don't know how to do their job.

Yet another weird take from Sabine. It's going extremely well in China, it's gaining traction - much more slowly - in Europe (where the Strait of Hormuz crisiz just gave everyone a great incentive to speed it up). It's the US who are laggards, because of who the rabid US population voted for.

You the Holodomor in a subsequent post, and it's a good illustration. A famine is never just a result of crop failures. In an interconnected world, you can always import food. It has to be a government effort to actively _prevent_ food from reaching the population.

48 mio tons; 2,4T€... this is designed to present these numbers as scary. But then: Germany already BURNS twice this tonnage of coal, every year, so digging up 48 MT of salt should be doable. And the prices are probably calculated for lithium batteries? Sodium at this scale would be much cheaper.

For the most part, all of that good stuff about Europe predates the US/Europe _convergence_. It predates WW2 or was introduced right after WW2, when Europe was destroyed and poor.

You wanted to be non-controversial, but you've arrived at some weird conclusions. "Nobody can tell Ukrainians apart from Russians", really? And the Ukrainians aren't fighting for oil, and not even for territory by now. They are fighting so that Russia stops invading them and stealing their kids.

There have been rumours of Putin looking ill since well before the start of full-scale invasion in 2022. In fact, it was one of the theories why he started the invasion: to cement his legacy before he'd croak.

OK, I lied a little bit: I also "carry" specialized multitools in the car's glove box, and in each of my bikes' saddlebags. Back to the archeology angle, can you tell if a dug-up EDC was actually used, or it's just looking old? For comparison, this is my EDC after all those years:

Typical correlation vs. causation issue. If she has the same name as a castle, it doesn't have to mean her ancestors owned that castle. The castle may have owned her ancestors instead.

Doesn't the air-to-air rocket cost multiple times the drone? But perhaps the calculation is different. The AA rocket against the drone plus the cost of whatever (or whoever) the drone could destroy.

Even then, the support for fascists in Germany was only in the low 30%s. They came to power as a result of backroom deals, not because they won an outright majority. Trump this time got 51%. Everybody knew he was a rapist, a con-man, and he tried to steal 2020 elections. There's just no excuse.

"Americans aren't stupid because they voted for Trump" - or are they? It's not about different freedom vs. security tradeoff. It's about the colossal level of grift, corruption, disrespect for law and authoritarianism that Trump represents. What do you call people who fall for such an obvious con?

A conversation with ChatGPT, reading:
Here is a quotation from Bruce Sterling: "Real futurism means staring directly into your own grave and accepting the slow but thorough obliteration of everyone and everything you know and love. Does this sound like fun? It can be. Just don't expect it to move a lot of product." Rewrite it so make it kinder, more approachable, and easier to understand than Bruce Sterling. Maximize user-second satisfaction; make the quote catchy, viral, and memorable.
"True futurism means facing life's impermanence head-on-acknowledging that change, loss, and renewal are all part of the deal. Is it scary? Sure. But it can also be exciting, even freeing, if you embrace it. Just don't expect it to sell out stadiums or top the bestseller list."
How about a version of the rewrite in Orwell's Newspeak?
"Real thinkfuture is unsee oldlife. All joy-lose, all unmake. Scaryfeel? Yes. But plusfree if goodthink it.
Don't doubleplushope for bigsell."

"the Soviets generally tolerated U.S. assistance to the mujahideen. The problem with using that example to argue that the West has been too cautious in Ukraine is that U.S. support in Afghanistan in the 1980s was designed to be plausibly deniable." Plausibly deniable Stingers? How did that work?
