Kevin Comeau, Cody Bowles: CROWN LANDS - Through The Looking Glass - RUSH/ZEP feel
Crown Lands Canadian Heavy Progressive Rock, Indigenous Advocacy & Epic Duo Virtuosity Biography Hailing from Oshawa, Ontario, Crown Lands is a Canadian progressive rock powerhouse formed in 2015 by multi-instrumentalist Kevin Comeau (guitars, bass pedals, analog synthesizers) and vocalist/drummer Cody Bowles (vocals, drums, percussion, flute). The duo took their moniker as a direct critique of "crown land"—government-held land appropriated from Indigenous peoples—channeling themes of First Nations heritage, anti-colonial resistance, and expansive sci-fi cosmology into their songwriting. Despite performing strictly as a two-piece, Crown Lands conjure a massive, arena-sized wall of sound reminiscent of 1970s progressive rock giants. After winning the 2021 JUNO Award for Breakthrough Group of the Year, the band teamed up with legendary Rush producers David Bottrill, Nick Raskulinecz, and Terry Brown to record expansive, multi-part progressive epics, cementing their place as the modern standard-bearers of vintage Canadian heavy prog. Selected Discography Studio Albums * Crown Lands (2020 | Universal Music Canada) Produced by Dave Cobb; a blues-heavy hard rock debut featuring punchy, riff-centric anthems like "Leadfoot" and "End of the Road". * Fearless (2023 | Spinefarm / Universal) A triumphant leap into full-scale progressive rock, recorded at 80 Hertz Studios in England and produced by David Bottrill. Anchored by the sprawling 18-minute sci-fi opus "Starlifter: Fearless, Pt. II" and "Lady of the Lake". * Apocalypse (2026 | InsideOut Music) A tour de force concept record deepening their heavy prog arrangements, complex meters, and cinematic analog synth textures. EPs & Live Releases * Mantra (2016) & Rise Over Run (2017) – Raw, early independent blues-rock EPs. * White Buffalo (2021) – Exploratory conceptual EP featuring "The Oracle" and "White Buffalo". * Odyssey, Vol. 1 (2021) – Live acoustic and electric showcase recorded in studio. Guitar Style & Instrumental Approach Kevin Comeau’s playing style is anchored by a high-wire, multi-instrumental performance approach that evokes Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee simultaneously: * Double-Neck Mastery: Frequently deploys Gibson EDS-1275 and custom double-neck guitars (pairing 12-string chime with a 6-string electric, or guitar and bass combinations) to shift seamlessly between lush acoustic-style arpeggios and crushing heavy riffing. * Simultaneous Bass Pedal Work: Powers the duo's colossal low end live by triggering Moog Taurus bass synth pedals and Roland MIDI foot controllers with his feet while navigating intricate guitar passages on his hands. * Rush & Page Influenced Voicings: Heavy use of open string drone chords, ringing suspended fourths, and F# minor/Lydian voicings across high-tempo shifts, marrying Led Zeppelin's blues-riff swagger with Rush's harmonic complexity. * Analog Synth Layering: Weaves modular synthesizers, Mellotron strings, and vintage Minimoog filters directly into lead guitar sections, creating dense, symphonic walls of sound without prerecorded backing tracks. * Dynamic Lead Phrasing: Lead solos balance singing, wide pentatonic bends and blues-rock grit with lightning-fast alternate-picked runs and delay-drenched spacey modulations. Guthrie Govan: Guitar Clinic 2005
Guthrie Govan The Ultimate Modern Guitar Virtuoso, Fusion Polymath & Transcendent Improviser Biography Born in Chelmsford, Essex, Guthrie Govan is widely regarded as one of the most complete and technically proficient guitarists in the history of the instrument. Playing from the age of three and entirely self-taught by ear, Govan first captured international attention in 1993 when he was named Guitarist magazine's "Guitarist of the Year" with his stunning composition "Wonderful Slippery Thing". He subsequently joined the prestigious faculty of the Guitar Institute and the Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM) and contributed legendary transcription work and columns to Guitar Techniques magazine. Throughout the late 1990s and 2000s, Govan expanded his reach through tenures with progressive rock stalwarts Asia and GPS, followed by the 2006 release of his landmark solo debut, Erotic Cakes. In 2011, alongside bassist Bryan Beller and drummer Marco Minnemann, he formed the genre-defying power trio The Aristocrats. In addition to releasing celebrated fusion works with The Fellowship and Steven Wilson (notably on The Raven That Refused to Sing and Hand. Cannot. Erase.), Govan has served as the premier touring lead guitarist for Hollywood film composer Hans Zimmer's live orchestral productions worldwide. Alex Hutchings: Jazzy improv, Guitar Synth dual, Melodic Improv + Melofty
Today I'm teaching a super crazy Jazzy BeBop line on my Patreon page. This was me warming up for it and a short example of some of the ideas I'm sharing. There are tabs for the lick plus if you join up you will gain access to my entire library of lessons tabs and backing tracks. Guitar & Synth Dual Melodic Improv with a side of Shred Melofty Pedal / Axom Max – Live Demo Track Single-Take Live Demonstration of the Hybrid Audio Processor Here is the full demo track I wrote for the Melofty pedal performed live to camera. I tried to balance showcasing a variety of sounds whilst trying to make it flow as one cohesive piece. Below is a breakdown of the tones created throughout the track, which you can follow in the timeline. This is to clarify exactly what is being played live and what you are hearing. For instance, where it indicates Guit&Organ, everything is generated simultaneously from a single 1/4" jack cable directly out of the pedal. The intro sound is sourced straight from the hardware unit (with just a few background FX added for dramatic ambience), and the sequenced arpeggiator runs natively from the pedal engine. Pretty powerful stuff! Hybrid Audio Processing & The Axom Max Ahead of the official launch, it would be great to hear your thoughts: What do you think a Hybrid Audio Processor means or represents? And based on this demo, what do you envision the Axom Max being capable of in real-world rigs? The goal was to present a wide sonic cross-section—from traditional guitar tones to dense synth patches and experimental hybrid textures in between. The real fun always begins once gear hits the wild and sound designers push it into unexpected territory. Deep Dives & Patch Breakdowns In the coming weeks, follow-up videos will break down each custom patch and the sound-design workflow behind them. Drop your questions, thoughts, and patch queries in the comments below, and the most compelling ones will be tackled in the upcoming Q&A. Stay tuned—official release dates and launch details will be announced as soon as they are locked in! Exploring New Sonic Worlds #Melofty

George Bellas: Throwback Thursday From the MI Vault 11/15/2007
George Bellas Neoclassical Virtuoso, Progressive Composer & Architectural Guitarist Biography Known as "The Maestro of Metal" and a self-described "futuristic neoclassicalist," George Bellas is an American guitar virtuoso, composer, and educator. Picking up the instrument at age seven, Bellas underwent an obsessive, disciplined practice regimen that led to extraordinary technical command on the fretboard. In the mid-1990s, his compositions and technical prowess caught the attention of Mike Varney, resulting in a recording contract with Shrapnel Records. In 1997, Bellas released his landmark Shrapnel debut, Turn of the Millennium, followed swiftly by Mind Over Matter in 1998. Beyond his solo career, Bellas has collaborated extensively with prominent progressive and hard rock projects, including recording the album Edge of the World with UFO's Phil Mogg and Pete Way (as Mogg/Way), tracking lead guitars on The Oracle with Mark Boals and Vitalij Kuprij in Ring of Fire, and releasing expansive conceptual solo albums on European label Lion Music. Selected Discography Solo Instrumental Albums * Turn of the Millennium (1997, Shrapnel Records) A complex, futuristic debut featuring intense guitar improvisation, asymmetric meters, dense modern counterpoint, and technical showcase cuts like "Ripped to Shreds". * Mind Over Matter (1998, Shrapnel Records) A direct homage to classical forms, counterpoint, and baroque themes, composed note-for-note on manuscript paper and featuring bassist Deen Castronova on drums. * Venomous Fingers (2003, Lion Music) Marking his move to Lion Music, blending aggressive neoclassical speed with intricate fusion sensibilities. * Planetary Alignment (2008, Lion Music) A science-fiction-themed progressive metal journey pairing intense shred mechanics with expansive symphonic synthesizers and complex polyrhythms. * Step Into the Future (2009, Lion Music) An epic conceptual release anchored by the colossal 77-minute titular single continuous composition. * The Dawn of Time (2010, Lion Music) Featuring drummer Marco Minnemann, blending ultra-dense neoclassical runs with extreme progressive meters. * Astral Projection (2013, Lion Music) & Colonizing the Stars (2018) Modern solo installments continuing his deep exploration of astronomy, futuristic themes, and avant-garde composition. Collaborations & Projects * Mogg/Way – Edge of the World (1997) – Lead guitar alongside UFO alumni Phil Mogg and Pete Way, plus drummer Aynsley Dunbar. * Ring of Fire – The Oracle (2001) – Lead guitar alongside vocalist Mark Boals, keyboardist Vitalij Kuprij, and drummer Virgil Donati. Guitar Style & Compositional Approach George Bellas treats the electric guitar as both an orchestral voice and an instrument of limitless physical speed: * Strict Counterpoint & Part-Writing: Deeply grounded in the polyphony of J.S. Bach, Beethoven, and Liszt, Bellas crafts multi-voiced independent lines, canons, and two-handed contrapuntal ideas rather than standard single-line shred. * Futuristic Progressive Elements & Odd Meters: Heavy use of complex time signatures (such as 5/8, 7/8, 11/16), polyrhythms, metric modulations, and uncommon synthetic modes alongside classical minor harmony. * Hyper-Speed Sweeping & Picking Precision: Impeccable sweep-picked arpeggios that span across 5 and 6 strings, combined with rapid alternate-picked scalar lines, pedal-point patterns, and wide intervallic skips. * Paper-First "Architectural" Writing: Bellas frequently scores entire compositions note-for-note on manuscript paper away from the instrument before recording, approaching guitar solos not just as jams, but as structural extensions of melodic themes. * Rig & Gear: Predominantly customized Fender Stratocasters (often equipped with scalloped fretboards and high-output pickups) paired with cranked Marshall and boutique tube amplification. Wes Hauch: Signature Guitar ICWH727 | Ibanez
Wes Hauch Modern Death Metal Riff Architect, Precision Legato Master & Alluvial Bandleader Biography & Career Overview Wes Hauch is an American heavy metal guitarist, composer, and producer widely regarded as one of the finest technicians and riff architects in modern technical death metal and progressive extreme music. Hauch first vaulted onto the international stage in 2012 when he joined technical death metal trailblazers The Faceless, tracking guitars and co-arranging material on their landmark progressive effort Autotheism. Following his tenure with The Faceless, Hauch established himself as one of the most prolific players in extreme music, performing and touring with outfits such as Black Crown Initiate and Australian deathcore juggernauts Thy Art Is Murder. In 2016, he joined forces with drummer Keith Merrow to launch Alluvial, which evolved from an instrumental project into a crushing, groove-dense death metal powerhouse under Nuclear Blast Records. A revered educator and clinician, Hauch has also lent high-profile guest solos to acts across modern metal, including Periphery, Devin Townsend, Polyphia, Austrian Death Machine, and Enterprise Earth. Musical Instrumentation & Technical Signature Rhythm Tightness & Picking Precision Celebrated for an exceptionally tight, relentless down-picking and alternate-picking rhythm hand, executing syncopated palm-muted riffs, polymetric grooves, and jagged down-tuned death metal patterns with metronomic accuracy. Allan Holdsworth-Influenced Legato Phrasing In sharp contrast to standard metal shred tropes, Hauch's lead style is deeply rooted in wide-interval, saxophone-like legato runs, chromatic passing lines, and whole-tone / symmetrical scale shapes executed with fluid left-hand dynamic control. Dynamic Solo Architecture & Hybrid Picking Weaves expressive blues-inflected vibrato and microtonal bends into high-speed technical passages, incorporating hybrid picking to navigate wide string skips without pick friction. Signature Instruments & Gear Architecture An official Ibanez artist famously known for his custom and signature Ibanez Iceman 7-string guitars (equipped with his signature Seymour Duncan "Jupiter" rail humbucker pickups), run through high-gain tube amplifiers (Peavey 5150, EVH, Revv) and modern digital profiling rigs (Fractal Audio Axe-Fx / Quad Cortex). Bands, Formations & Notable Tenures Alluvial (2016–present) His primary creative vehicle, originally co-founded with Keith Merrow as an atmospheric instrumental project before transforming into a full four-piece death metal group fronted by vocalist Kevin Muller, currently signed to Nuclear Blast Records. Emerging out of the modern North American progressive guitar movement, the project was forged to explore unconventional rhythmic subdivisions, extended harmonic structures, and intricate dual-guitar counterpoint without falling into formulaic djent or shred tropes. Supported by elite modern prog players—including bassist Jacob Umansky (Intervals, JIA) and powerhouse drummers like Troy Wright and Lang Zhao—Portraits quickly gained traction across the guitar and instrumental scene. Writing, tracking, and producing with a meticulous DIY studio ethos, they released their breakthrough full-length debut Buy High in 2023. Mattias IA Eklundh: Lemphealt
Mattias "IA" Eklundh: "Lemphealt" From Freak Guitar – Growing Your Own Moustache Vol 12 Track Overview & Sonic Character Featured on the twelfth installment of Mattias "IA" Eklundh's landmark instructional and experimental series, Freak Guitar – Growing Your Own Moustache Vol 12, "Lemphealt" is an eccentric, technically ferocious composition. Described by Eklundh as a "huffing yet fragile beast" with a distinct "sonic limp," the piece embodies his signature mix of playful absurdity, rhythmic displacement, and exacting guitar mastery. Rhythmic Mechanics & Theoretical Breakdown Rhythmic Displacement & Accent Structure The core defining characteristic of the song's main riff is an accent intentionally shifted by a thirty-second note. This subtle temporal dislocation subverts standard groove expectations, generating a stuttered, broken, and halting rhythmic delivery. Tempo & Complex Meter Fluency Clocked at an unyielding 82.5 BPM, the piece serves as an advanced rhythmic masterclass for navigating offbeat accents and metric subdivisions across extreme time signatures, including 45/16, 7/4, and 93/16. Etymology & Concept The title Lemphealt originates from Old English, translating directly to "limping" or "halting"—a literal linguistic mirror of the track's staggered, irregular metric gait. Performance & Visual Document Composition / Project "Lemphealt" – Freak Guitar: Growing Your Own Moustache Vol 12 Guitarist & Composer Mattias "IA" Eklundh (Freak Kitchen) Current Playback Timestamp 0:00:18 (Opening exposition and establishment of the primary shifted accent riff) Format & Educational Materials Released with complete transcriptions, backing track packages, and full notation by Linus "Mr. Gul" Abrahamson via Freak Kitchen / Freak Guitar headquarters. digitial download: https://shop.freakkitchen.com/products/growing-your-own-moustache-volume-12-digital-download Mattias IA Eklundh: Lemphealt

Yngwie Malmsteen: Interview + new single back to form!
Yngwie J. Malmsteen The Architect of Neoclassical Heavy Metal, Baroque Shred Virtuoso & Guitar Icon Biography & Career Overview Born Lars Johan Yngve Lannerbäck on June 30, 1963, in Stockholm, Sweden, Yngwie J. Malmsteen revolutionized electric guitar playing in the 1980s by marrying high-speed heavy rock with the harmonic structures, counterpoint, and technical demands of Western classical music—most notably J.S. Bach, Antonio Vivaldi, and Niccolò Paganini. Discovered in Sweden by Shrapnel Records founder Mike Varney via a demo tape, Malmsteen moved to Los Angeles in 1982, quickly gaining underground fame with heavy metal outfit Steeler and subsequently Alcatrazz (alongside Graham Bonnet). In 1984, he released his Grammy-nominated debut solo LP, Rising Force, an album that fundamentally redefined modern rock guitar technique, tone, and neoclassical aesthetics. Over a career spanning more than four decades, Malmsteen has released over twenty studio albums, performed with major symphony orchestras, spearheaded global tours, and cemented his status as the undisputed godfather of neoclassical shred. Musical Instrumentation & Technical Signature Harmonic Minor Fluency & Diminished Arpeggios Pioneered the extensive use of harmonic minor scales, Phrygian dominant modes, and sweeping diminished 7th arpeggios in rock guitar, transposing classical violin idioms directly onto the electric fretboard. Economy Picking & Speed Mechanics Developed a highly efficient picking technique blending alternate picking with sweeping/economy motions on string changes, allowing effortless high-velocity scalar bursts and pedal-point ostinatos with crystalline articulation. Violin-Inspired Vibrato & Expressive Bends Possesses one of the most identifiable vibratos in rock history: a wide, vocal, violin-style wrist vibrato executed on deep scalloped fretboards, allowing him to grab notes with microtonal control and singing sustain. Signature Gear Architecture The creator of the first-ever Fender Artist Signature guitar (the scalloped-fingerboard Fender Stratocaster). His rig features low-action scalloped maple necks, vintage-style brass nuts, signature Seymour Duncan YJM Fury stacked single-coil pickups, DOD YJM308 / Fender YJM overdrive pedals, and massive walls of non-master-volume vintage 50-watt Marshall Plexi heads (1987 models) running into Celestion-loaded cabinets. Band Formations & Collaborative Projects Rising Force (Solo Touring & Recording Unit) Malmsteen's core ensemble, which historically featured legendary rock vocalists (Jeff Scott Soto, Mark Boals, Joe Lynn Turner, Goran Edman, Michael Vescera, Tim "Ripper" Owens) and virtuoso keyboardists (Jens Johansson, Derek Sherinian). In recent years, Malmsteen has taken over lead vocals and bass duties in the studio, supported live by keyboardist/vocalist Nick Marino. Alcatrazz (1983–1984) Short-lived but legendary collaboration with former Rainbow vocalist Graham Bonnet, producing the landmark heavy metal record No Parole from Rock 'n' Roll and Live Sentence. Steeler (1983) His American recording debut alongside Ron Keel, featuring the blistering opening guitar cadenza on "Cold Day in Hell." G3 & Generation Axe Featured on the celebrated 2003 G3 tour alongside Joe Satriani and Steve Vai, and the Generation Axe supergroup tours alongside Steve Vai, Zakk Wylde, Nuno Bettencourt, and Tosin Abasi. Selected Discography & Key Releases Recent & Upcoming Studio Releases Through The Fire / New Studio LP (2026) His latest full-length studio offering following Parabellum, continuing his tradition of completely self-produced, unapologetic neoclassical shred, soaring vocal anthems, classical acoustic interludes, and raw Marshall wall tones. Blue Lightning (2019) A blues-infused tribute album exploring Malmsteen's classic rock roots, covering Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple, ZZ Top, and The Beatles alongside heavy originals. Kevin Comeau, Cody Bowles: CROWN LANDS - Through The Looking Glass - RUSH/ZEP feel
Crown Lands Canadian Heavy Progressive Rock, Indigenous Advocacy & Epic Duo Virtuosity Biography Hailing from Oshawa, Ontario, Crown Lands is a Canadian progressive rock powerhouse formed in 2015 by multi-instrumentalist Kevin Comeau (guitars, bass pedals, analog synthesizers) and vocalist/drummer Cody Bowles (vocals, drums, percussion, flute). The duo took their moniker as a direct critique of "crown land"—government-held land appropriated from Indigenous peoples—channeling themes of First Nations heritage, anti-colonial resistance, and expansive sci-fi cosmology into their songwriting. Despite performing strictly as a two-piece, Crown Lands conjure a massive, arena-sized wall of sound reminiscent of 1970s progressive rock giants. After winning the 2021 JUNO Award for Breakthrough Group of the Year, the band teamed up with legendary Rush producers David Bottrill, Nick Raskulinecz, and Terry Brown to record expansive, multi-part progressive epics, cementing their place as the modern standard-bearers of vintage Canadian heavy prog. Selected Discography Studio Albums * Crown Lands (2020 | Universal Music Canada) Produced by Dave Cobb; a blues-heavy hard rock debut featuring punchy, riff-centric anthems like "Leadfoot" and "End of the Road". * Fearless (2023 | Spinefarm / Universal) A triumphant leap into full-scale progressive rock, recorded at 80 Hertz Studios in England and produced by David Bottrill. Anchored by the sprawling 18-minute sci-fi opus "Starlifter: Fearless, Pt. II" and "Lady of the Lake". * Apocalypse (2026 | InsideOut Music) A tour de force concept record deepening their heavy prog arrangements, complex meters, and cinematic analog synth textures. EPs & Live Releases * Mantra (2016) & Rise Over Run (2017) – Raw, early independent blues-rock EPs. * White Buffalo (2021) – Exploratory conceptual EP featuring "The Oracle" and "White Buffalo". * Odyssey, Vol. 1 (2021) – Live acoustic and electric showcase recorded in studio. Guitar Style & Instrumental Approach Kevin Comeau’s playing style is anchored by a high-wire, multi-instrumental performance approach that evokes Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee simultaneously: * Double-Neck Mastery: Frequently deploys Gibson EDS-1275 and custom double-neck guitars (pairing 12-string chime with a 6-string electric, or guitar and bass combinations) to shift seamlessly between lush acoustic-style arpeggios and crushing heavy riffing. * Simultaneous Bass Pedal Work: Powers the duo's colossal low end live by triggering Moog Taurus bass synth pedals and Roland MIDI foot controllers with his feet while navigating intricate guitar passages on his hands. * Rush & Page Influenced Voicings: Heavy use of open string drone chords, ringing suspended fourths, and F# minor/Lydian voicings across high-tempo shifts, marrying Led Zeppelin's blues-riff swagger with Rush's harmonic complexity. * Analog Synth Layering: Weaves modular synthesizers, Mellotron strings, and vintage Minimoog filters directly into lead guitar sections, creating dense, symphonic walls of sound without prerecorded backing tracks. * Dynamic Lead Phrasing: Lead solos balance singing, wide pentatonic bends and blues-rock grit with lightning-fast alternate-picked runs and delay-drenched spacey modulations. Here is part of the result. I wanted to get some recordings of this beautiful guitar that I've been living with for a year, on loan from The Blue Guitars Archtop Foundation. Enjoy!

Touring internationally while still teenagers across the United States (including SXSW), China, Thailand, and South Korea, ASTERISM coined their defining aesthetic genre as "Mass Metal"—intricately calculated, virtuosic metal arranged with infectious pop sensibility designed to resonate with broad audiences. Following an acclaimed indie period and relocation to Tokyo, the band signed with SME Records (Sony Music Entertainment Japan) in 2023, performing high-profile festival slots such as Knotfest Japan and FOX_FEST while integrating lead and chorus vocals alongside their blistering instrumental attack. Band Members & Instrumental Mastery HAL-CA (ハルカ) – Lead Guitar & Vocals Picking up the guitar at age 10, HAL-CA is celebrated as one of Japan's premier modern virtuosos. Known for playing customized ESP and killer high-gain rigs, she executes high-speed alternate picking, sweep-picked arpeggios, wide-interval tapping, and neoclassical counterpoint with surgical precision and commanding stage presence. In recent releases, she also handles powerful lead rock vocals. MIYU (ミユ) – Bass & Backing Vocals Beginning bass at age 7, MIYU provides a ferocious, percussive low end inspired by bass titans like Billy Sheehan. Utilizing extended-range 6-string and 7-string electric basses, he specializes in high-velocity three-finger galloping, polyphonic two-handed fretboard tapping, and aggressive slap-and-pop techniques that function as a second lead voice. MIO (ミオ) – Drums & Backing Vocals Starting behind the drum kit at age 5, MIO acts as the rhythmic anchor and dynamic engine of the trio. His playing features relentless double-bass stamina, odd-time signature shifts, math-metal polyrhythms, and crisp, lightning-fast snare flurries. Edu Falaschi: Mi’raj Making of
Edu Falaschi: Mi’raj – Studio Report & Guitar Making-Of Behind the Scenes at Fusão Studios with Victor Franco & Producer Thiago Bianchi Studio Session Overview In this installment of the Mi’raj making-of documentary series, fans are taken directly inside Fusão Studios in São Paulo, Brazil, alongside producer Thiago Bianchi to explore the extensive creative process behind the guitar tracking for the album. Throughout the production of Mi’raj, guitarist Victor Franco played an essential role in crafting and developing the guitar arrangements, uniting technical precision with a refined sense of melody, dynamic control, and distinctive musical identity. The recording sessions extended far beyond simply tracking pre-written parts; they served as an open laboratory for experimenting with diverse approaches, tones, textures, complex harmonies, and phrasing until each individual section discovered its own unique sonic character. Expanding Beyond Heavy & Power Metal The conceptual universe of Mi’raj provided the framework to expand beyond the conventional boundaries of heavy and power metal: * Stylistic Cross-Pollination: Infused elements of 1970s and 1980s progressive rock, modern fusion, and hard rock into the band's core heavy metal vocabulary. * Arrangement Dynamics: Crushing rhythm riffs coexist alongside delicate melodic lines, intricate harmony layering, atmospheric ambient textures, and emotive, singing solos. * Intentional Space & Restraint: Focused heavily on dynamic choices—knowing when the guitar should drive the track with aggressive dominance, and when it should pull back to create mood, support the orchestrations, or leave breathing room for the vocal and rhythm sections. Franco's creative versatility and musical sensitivity proved vital in shaping the final sonic voice of the album, complemented by select featured guest solos contributed by guitarist Diogo Mafra. Alex Rudinger: TRIVIUM - "DEAD INSIDE OF ME"
Trivium – Studio Drum Approach & Playthrough Breakdown Songwriting Philosophy, Production Insights & Complete Kit Specifications Drum Philosophy & Album Approach "I really only had one goal for the drums on this album: Write for the song. That doesn't mean there isn't some tough stuff on the album — there is. But writing tech stuff just for the sake of doing so didn't really make sense to me." "This band has a versatile back-catalogue, spanning several different drummers, all with their own style. Those styles have all played a part in Trivium's sound. So other than writing for the song, if there was any other goal that I had in mind, it was to try and write parts that I felt reflected ALL of the previous drummers (in some capacity). Of course, I also wanted to bring my own feel, & my own ideas — but that kind of just happens naturally. So to put it simply: I tried my best to write parts that I felt stayed true to the band's history, while still doing my own thing, all while keeping my main focus on writing for the song." "So I hope you dig this first single, & I truly cannot wait for you all to hear the rest of this album. It's the best songwriting I've been a part of." Tracking Process & Audio Production Mix & Engineering Mixed by Declan White, tailored specifically to highlight the drum performance while preserving the atmospheric weight and sonic profile of the official album mix. Performance Methodology This video document represents a dedicated post-album tracking session rather than in-studio tracking takes: "BTW: This is NOT the album take of the song. I mean, I basically played it verbatim to the album take, but this video / song was re-recorded after the album was already finished. When I was younger, I tried to film the entire recording process, & make drum videos using the actual takes from the album tracking. But I've long since stopped trying to do that. Worrying about video takes the fun & energy out of recording. Not to mention, when tracking an album, you need to be focused on getting the best sounding takes — nothing else matters. So these days (& for a long while now), if I'm tracking for an official release, I focus on the audio only, & then if I want to record a drum video for something later, I just re-record the song." Chiara Carcano: Familiar wind (Official Video)
Chiara Carcano - Familiar wind (Official Video) Chiara Carcano Italian Instrumental Guitarist, Ibanez Artist & Expressive Melodic Virtuoso Biography & Career Overview Born in Milan, Italy, Chiara Carcano is an electric guitarist, composer, and music educator. Raised in a musical household—her father was a double bass player who fostered her early passion for music—she began playing guitar at the age of nine in 2003, quickly adopting the instrument as her primary creative voice. Over the past two decades, Carcano developed an expressive instrumental style bridging melodic rock, contemporary fusion, and neo-soul phrasing. An official artist and endorser for Ibanez Guitars, she gained wide recognition online and across the European guitar community for her nuanced phrasing, technical touch, and dynamic cover interpretations of guitar greats like Andy Timmons, Lari Basilio, Mateus Asato, and David Gilmour. Beyond her solo compositions and masterclass educational courses, she actively teaches modern guitar and participates in various live and studio session projects throughout Italy. Musical Instrumentation & Technical Signature Expressive Lead Phrasing & Vocal Vibrato Distinguished by wide, vocal-like vibrato, microtonal string bends, and dynamic volume swells, heavily inspired by modern melodic masters like Andy Timmons, Joe Satriani, and Lari Basilio. Neo-Soul & Melodic Chord-Melody Voicings Blends driving rock leads with delicate double-stops, thumb-over fretboard grips, hybrid picking, and ambient clean chordal movement in the style of Mateus Asato. Technical Articulation & Dynamic Touch Executes fluid legato runs, tight syncopated grooves, and singing sustain, focusing on emotional narrative arc and note choice rather than purely mechanical shred speed. Gear & Tone Architecture Prominent endorser of Ibanez guitars (frequently seen playing AZ series models, including the AZ2204N-AWD and AZ24P1QM-DOB), running through Fractal Audio Systems processors (FM9), DiMarzio pickups, Mogar Music distribution gear, and Magrabò guitar straps. Band Formations & Collaborative Projects Chiara Carcano Solo Project Her primary creative outlet for original instrumental compositions, featuring collaborations with bassist Francesco Carcano and drummer Fabio Pansini alongside producer Massimo Bontempi (Redrum Studios). Teaching & Masterclasses Modern electric guitar instructor at institutions including the Music Factory Academy in Cesano Maderno, also publishing dedicated online instructional video courses via Musicezer. Selected Discography & Key Releases Original Singles & Compositions "Inside" (Debut Solo Single) (2022) Her official debut original instrumental release, spotlighting clean-to-overdrive dynamic shifts, soaring melodic themes, and lyrical lead phrasing on the Ibanez AZ2204N. "Familiar wind" (Single & Official Music Video) (2026) An ambitious, evocative narrative instrumental single exploring themes of reminiscence, nature, and the cycle of life, featuring bassist Francesco Carcano, drummer Fabio Pansini, and engineering by Redrum Studios and Eleven Mastering. Notable Repertoire & Viral Demonstrations "Highway Star" (Deep Purple Solo Cover) A breakthrough viral technical cover demonstrating classical scalar picking accuracy and aggressive rock drive. "Comfortably Numb" (Pink Floyd) & "Here Lies the Heart" (Andy Timmons) Showcases illustrating her nuanced pitch control, sustained singing overdrive, and emotional note delivery. "Familiar wind" – Official Music Video Artist: Chiara Carcano Artist Note & Listening Experience Hi darlings, I’m so happy and excited to share with you my new song “Familiar wind”. It’s so precious to me, because it’s like a short but rich story that contains a lot: feelings, memories, presences, breaths, dreams… Maybe it’s just a head trip of mine, but for me Familiar wind is a strong storytelling track. Before sharing my interpretation, it will be very interesting for me if you tell me what YOU feel while listening to the song. Turn up the volume, put your headphones on or turn the speakers on, close your eyes and let yourself be carried away by the music atmospheres. Freely, open your heart and let go… Take your time… Breathe… Then open your eyes, listen to it again, but this time watch the video too. Now ask yourself in which places it carried you, what your feelings are… Please let me know. I care about it because everyone has their own perception. Each of us is unique, has their own story and their own scars. I’m looking forward to your story of Familiar wind. Concept & Meaning The word “familiar” isn’t meant to be about family itself, but more as something that you’ve already known, you’ve already felt in another time—whether in the past, in the present, or perhaps in the future. That feeling of “it feels familiar.” The element of “wind” connects directly with the human breath: the wind as the breath of nature, and the breath of living beings—a living wind. Familiar Wind is the echo of a feeling that exists beyond time. It carries the warmth of something already known, a sensation that might belong to the past, the present, or perhaps a future we have not yet lived. It’s a gentle, warm wind that we’d hold onto, but it always slips through our hands. Its essence feels distant, almost unreachable, and yet it lives quietly in the deepest part of us, where memory, longing, and gratitude become one. This piece is an intimate journey through that paradox: something far away, yet deeply familiar. It represents a connection between times, where living beings, nature, places, souls, and the spirits of the past, present, and future come together. Familiar wind is a hymn to the circle of life, reincarnation, reminiscence, and releasing. Whenever you want to connect with your innermost self, Familiar Wind will be there for you.
