Carlolina Saddlebag Dragonfly, bright orange abdomen, perched on the end of a broken off weed stalk.

Dorippus Tiger Butterfly, perched on a flower, gather pollen. Bright orange wings, thick black border at edge of wings. A few white drops, like white paint got splattered on its wing tips, but the last quarter of wings only have white dots.

Blue Dasher Dragonfly, very coomon here in central Florida, a frequent target on my wanderings. Pale blue body, like the paint job on an ancient car, faded and smoothed from being too long in the Florida sun. Bright green facial features and head.

Northern Bobwhite, seen standing in place in photographers backyard. Pale white legs, pale white lower under, up through chest, then lighter brown to neck and darker browns around wings and back. Black lines at tips of feathers creates a shingled effect to the feather pattern. Quite plump and very skittish, a rare and infrequent visitor to my yard.

Red-Bellied Woodpecker, clinging to the underside of a dead tree, while hunting for tasty snaks. Brightly lit, the texture and rough features of the dead tree can be seen. The bird is a smaller size, white under, black with white stripes on back and wings. red cap, extending down the back of neck. Slight orange tinge to cheeks stubby black bill. Smooth short feathers on head, unlike the tall punk-rock Pilated Woodpecker's stand-up hairdo.

Pilated Woodpecker, peering out from the dark side of a tree, into the bright morning sun. Tallish woodpecker with that distinctive red feather hairdo, seemingly blown back by an unending wind.

Anhinga, back to sun, wings spread three-quarters wide. Observed a steady flapping rather than usual still hold. The sun wasn't high enough yet to penetrate the canopy, though a bit of sun illuminates the neck and head here rather nicely.

A rare visitor to my yard. Northern Bobwhite Quail. Welcome!

Northern Bobwhite Quail, on ground, facing camera, but turned slightly off center towards camera left. Round body, thin legs, pale white underneath with thin black lines making shapes of petals throughout the front. Light brown stripes in wing feathers and back. Tiny beak, light brown head and neck. Have lived here nearly 30 years and have only seen one a very few times here.

Little Blue Heron, just starting a flight, feet barely clear of water. Taken from an elevated dock perspective, looking down on the back of the heron as it launched away. Head and neck in crisp focus, with everything esle blurred. Some droplets of water around the feet and legs helping show the motion in this shot. One of those barely missed shots, but still interesting in details.

Two Rock Pigeons, both facing camera right. These little guys were seen on the handrail of a restaurant at the end of the Main Street Pier in Daytona Beach. The pier pigeons are a favorite subject for me each time I ride over to a Bike Week or Bike Fest. The pigeons, living their best life, beachside, at a restaurant, just doing what pigeons do while the biker and beach world passes them by.

Pied-billed Grebe, pushing up quite the bow wave as it floats directly towards the photographer. Loved the sunlight at play here, the reflection, and the size of the bow wave and wake spreading out behind.
