i don't know if the red diamond energy monster is vaatu or not - it seems like it could be and it seems like it could be a fakeout for those of us who watched korra and are bringing that lore in. i also respect that lots of history was lost, because who wants to worry about all that continuity?

the avatar twins are adorably precocious. their cat-monkey mounts are perfect. and i like that the story isn't just about them, but it's also about the adults in their life. after all, those of us who saw the original series when we were younger are full adults now who want pov characters too.

three episodes in, and the new avatar series got me good. i didn't watch any preview material and only barely knew anything about the premise, and i have diligently avoided all of the internet discourse. but i'm all in on seven havens. it would need to take a sharp turn for the worse to lose me.

i can appreciate the proficiency with which it's read, but the country-boy delivery will need more time to grow on me if it ever does. this is the speaking style of a lot of people who hurt me over a long period of time. that's actually a nonzero amount of the friction i'm feeling.

that is a *child*. it's deeply stupid and self-destructive, to say nothing of inhumane, to go after adults who do irrelevant things like cross the border undocumented and pay taxes while not hurting anyone. it's so far beyond all of that to do this to a *child*.

yeah, i just started chapter 3. mordecai showed up end of chapter 2. the prose descriptions of game ui elements like achievements are incredibly cringey, but i can get over that. mostly i'm just not vibing with the basic premise. so far imo it's not quite self-aware enough to be this tropey.

i've met a few therapists who understood that to be the baseline, extrapolating that from it being fairly close to the baseline woman's experience plus some additional inherent marginalization. they're not all hopeless!

i cannot express how excited i am. this one is throné/temenos, but it's labeled a chapter 1 so i imagine there will be at least one followup. i can't imagine every pairing gets a multi-chapter storyline but even if it's just each character gets to play in a single paired storyline, that'd be great.

i was already a big fan of this game and the first one, but honestly if i were selling someone on the series as a whole and got one chapter to hold up as an example of why this series is good, i would strongly consider this one. it occurs to me that i may actually like ot2 more than ot1.

...betrayal, succession, forgiveness, and love. it's not a super long story. but it hits really hard. and the boss fight is novel, too: the boss has two minions that shield her weaknesses, but not until they die. just until they're shieldbroken. they've got a lot of health too.
