The Nobel Peace Prize has been a bit of a joke since they awarded it to Henry Kissinger (and Machado last year), but it's good to see Navi Pillay getting this platform to highlight Israel's genocide of the Palestinian people. Notice the Guardian headline neglects to mention Israel… archive.ph/msx7k

In the UK, our public service are crumbling while the rich enjoy tax breaks Our taxes are not only regressive (scrap VAT, tax the rich!), but lower than the European average Tax does not fund government spending, but it is necessary to balance the economy

I’m so tired of the disabled and other benefits claimants being the low hanging fruit for politicians. Time and again we see them happy to take the last few pound of a starving disabled pensioner before even mentioning a wealth tax

So after 16 years of the Tories and Starmer punishing, impoverishing, hounding and scapegoating benefits claimants to distract from the rich doubling their wealth, Andy Burnham’s Labour Party is promising a crackdown on … benefits claimants

In the UK we suffer from a lower pension, later retirement age and lower life expectancy than most European countries This means the amount of state pension we actually receive is much lower than in other countries

The lower tax threshold (personal allowance) of £12,570 would be over £16,200 now, if it had been increased in line with inflation 700k more poor households are paying tax as a result & millions more are paying higher tax Freezing tax thresholds is a regressive tax increase 3/3
010
Troovus @troovus.bsky.social · 05/09/2026
Jenrick's stunt aside, the issue is important The effect of the personal allowance freeze imposed by Rachel Reeves in her 2025 budget & by the other Tory chancellors before her (since 2021), is that by 2030, basic rate tax payers will be paying over £1,000 more tax each year 2/3

Troovus @troovus.bsky.social · 05/09/2026
This is a pathetic stunt by Robert Jenrick - to offer to resign from a job he doesn't have yet - if he doesn't keep a promise that should be moot by the next election anyway Labour should increase the personal allowance to what it would be if it hadn't been frozen 1/3
