We lived in a rental when I was a kid with no sump pump, and one spring we ended up with a foot of water in an unfinished basement. It was terrible and stinky. Ours is fairly new and runs well, I just hadn't checked the outlet pipe in three years, which is buried somewhere in the pucker brush.

Nothing like having to go outside in the middle of pouring rain and figuring out just where the piping for the basement sump pump has gotten blocked. I couldn't find it, so I cut it where I could and we'll deal with it when the sun returns. For now, my basement will be saved from flooding.

We are, too. We attended TriCon in Halifax and decided the Canadian con scene has so much good going on that we should check out Can*Con. Both are accessible to us by car (Ottawa is 12 hours, so its accessibility is debatable, but I drive further to visit the office, and this is for fun).

Easy. "Pool of Radiance." I played it on my commodore 64, and it was the first time I stayed up all night gaming. I'd enjoyed games before, but this was when games became a real passion.

An ad for the 1988 computer game, Pool of Radiance, released by Strategic Simulations, Inc. It was the first real Dungeons and Dragons game you could play on your computer, with turn based combat system using the AD&D rules.
