These solutions would double the number of power break points (4 at either end, look at the map of the northern entrances below) and position them on gradients...

As for the module box, that's one more thing I don't get. Look at what kind of sockets are installed in a vast majority of buildings in South Tyrol. It seems like it's easily possible here to source a different type of box for 2 modules.

Oh, I see, I wasn't aware there was a widespread anti-Schuko sentiment. I guess that's what leads to the picture above: A fresh installation, and the actual use case looks like this... Do you know more about the price differences?

I somehow missed that Dubai published a map of its "Rail Network Plan 2032" earlier this year. It's interesting from multiple perspectives, as it shows...

Genuine question: Can anyone explain to me why Dubai Metro is building this branched Blue Line instead of just extending the Red and Green Lines?

A few more pictures of the new underpass. A lot of energy was spent to prevent car users from ever taking it "by accident". A curb modal filter on the western entrance, traffic lights, and the bus lanes narrow to a single lane under the tracks. @chittimarco.bsky.social

Had a look at the destinations list on the Verona Airport website. First two letters and already two hits - no existing direct flights between Aalborg or Boa Vista and Malpensa/Linate/Bergamo. But it's not just that... Some flights into Milan might just be on the wrong weekdays - Belfast-Milan...

If anything, a branch line connecting to the Karwendelbahn seems within the realm of possibilities. But then, you know, for what? Saving 5 minutes of travel time from the city centre? Doesn't seem worth the investment.

Rail access would be nice, but seems way too difficult to explore. Apparently, not a single person has ever made that suggestion so far. Anyway, there's currently a direct bus from the railway station - runs every 15 minutes and takes a mere 17 minutes. Seems good enough...

If they are ever going to expand housing, they will go for this triangular area on the city's western edge. But yeah, politics around that aren't great either. Intricacies of local South Tyrolean politics at play here.

A bit lateral, but the biggest user base for the station will be commuters along the Brenner railway, who try to reach BZ's large industrial area. That's also what official press releases say, but a look at the map will show you that - for that purpose - the station is being built at the wrong spot.

C'mon... Imagine an alternative world in which they had redeveloped/landscaped Tempelhof into something akin to Hyde Park (random example). Do you really think there would be voices saying "Nah, I preferred the previous ecological dead zone there"?

No doubt some people like/love it. No doubt it has a unique vibe. But do a representative poll, ask 1000 people (preferrably non-locals) "do you perceive the pictured park as ugly or beautiful?", and you'll find out what's reality beyond bubble-think. My money isn't on the "beautiful" side.

Many rail enthusiasts tend to think of the past as the good old times. But nobody should ever forget, how astonishingly bad things really were. Pictured: a mid-80s timetable of a branch line in Italy. Few trains, no consistent timings, an endless list of exceptions.

Austria finished the renovation of its monumental parliament in 2022, spending ~0.5bln €. Political parties had been delaying the renovation for years, fearing a public populist backlash due to the expected exorbitant costs.

One of Italy's oddities: most new technical installations will still use "hybrid" sockets that can accommodate German Schuko/Europlug, but also the "traditional" Italian 3-prong Type L plug, a close-to-extinction technical standard by and large unused in any device built in the last 2-3 decades.

Just checked on a map: Rails within walking distance from downtown, from UW campus, from the major hospital complex, from the airport terminal, from Camp Randall Stadium, but "not where the density is concentrated" (whatever that's supposed to mean in the Midwest)...

I just had a look at it, doesn't give much away from the outside. The 2 gates (only the right one leads to the elevator) are made by a specialized company that doesn't build elevators, so the entire package isn't even a shelved product.

'External opinion interference' seems like a popular talking point among Americans recently. There is just a very thin, fine line between being annoyed by foreign armchair experts lecturing you and cutting yourself off from outside expertise.

Gare de Lyon. Build a long distance underground station like in Bologna, just with 6 tracks. Make sure the red tunnels exist right from the start. If you find money, also build the yellow tunnel 😉

Interesting comparison on display along the Pustertal railway in South Tyrol, Italy. Left: catenary portal from the late 80s. Right: RFI's 2025 edition. The size escalation comes probably down to standardization efforts. Correct, @chittimarco.bsky.social ? (photo isn't mine)

It's actually not that unusual in Italy that people get rid of bidets, when they restructure their bathrooms (space constraints in modern appartments...). Also a good indicator that a significant part of the alleged high usage numbers come down to 'prestige answers' ("Yes, of course, I use it!").

This doesn't mean NYC isn't diverse, but does it really 'beat' everyone else? Just consider this: One of the linguistic diversity hotspots on this planet happens to be West Africa. African migration into Europe is a magnitude higher than into the US. France alone has a 50% bigger African-born... 2/3
