Political journalists are such marks. All three of these - Europe, Social Care, and electoral reform - are things he's saying will come after the next election. Not now, not when he actually has a significant majority he can use to push through progressive reforms.

Andy Burnham has staked his future on a gamble that the public will back radical progressive policies on social care, electoral reform and Europe, telling voters that his agenda will break the mould of the last 40 years and “allow us to rise again”.

Andy Burnham says this as his Government steadfastly refuses to stand up to the far right on our streets as they violently harass refugees and the RNLI. Andy Burnham's UN speech has been one big lie.
Nothing brings the British people together across age, race and class more than their hatred of injustice – the misuse of power against the powerless.

Andy Burnham says this whilst sitting on the most aggressive anti-protest laws of our lifetimes, which have been used to arrest and charge nuns for holding signs protesting a genocide.
It was because Manchester’s humble mill workers took a principled stand.

During the American civil war, despite the hardships it brought them, they refused to touch raw cotton that had been picked by slaves.

In 1862, people with little power used it to help those with none on the other side of the world.

The best change is change like that, bottom-up change led by people.

And whatever distorted view social media offers today, the world is still full of good and decent people who are ready stand up for what is right.

2026 ICE detention

Yiannopoulos in 2026
On 27 August 2026, Yiannopoulos was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport in Kenner, Louisiana.[40][41] According to a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson, Yiannopoulos had legally entered the United States on 14 May 2019 through New York City but overstayed, and was issued a final order of removal by an immigration judge on 22 July 2026 after failing to appear at his immigration hearing.[40][41] He was held at an ICE detention facility in Alexandria, Louisiana.[42][43] Yiannopoulos was in Louisiana ahead of a concert by Kanye West. Far-right activist Laura Loomer, with whom he had publicly fallen out, took credit for first drawing attention to his immigration status, having previously alleged that he had overstayed his visa.[44][45][46]

Yiannopoulos had previously been a vocal supporter of immigration enforcement, calling in 2025 for ICE checkpoints and "on the spot deportation" of anyone unable to prove legal status.[47]

Watch some of the “clanker” videos on TikTok. They’re jokes, sure, but they’re also explicitly fantasies of power: forming a mob or passing a law and discriminating against a weaker group.

It’s play bigotry, and the appeal clearly comes from the belief that it would be fun to be a bigot.

I think everyone is strongly committed to finding ways to draw bright lines around their positions when we'd all be better off saying "hmm this seems complicated" - as in, being sid from toy story is bad, but also using words like "bigotry" without attending to how that's linked to power is also bad

When you think you're a force against division. When two of your proudest legacies is hostility to people who want to make this country their home, and a policy to lift up poor children you had to be forced into by mass revolt from your own MPs.
Starmer says Britain is 'stronger and fairer than it was 2 years ago'
Starmer says:

I’m about to visit His Majesty the King to offer my resignation and close the book on my time as prime minister.

My work is done.

In six and a half years I took our party from a historic defeat in 2019, changed it so it was fit to face the country, and won a landslide general election victory in 2024.

Since then, it has been the privilege of my life to serve you and this great country as prime minister, and I am confident that Britain is now stronger and fairer than it was two years ago.

Our economy is stronger. Our public services are on the up, with the biggest fall in waiting times for 17 years.

Children are being lifted out of poverty every single day.

Immigration is down significantly.

Our defence and security are on a far stronger footing, and our international reputation is greatly enhanced.

Never has a man been in such abject denial of the hateful, embittered, and divisive legacy he leaves behind. The Prime Minister of race riots and toilet police. Good riddance to Keir Starmer. May history judge him as harshly as he deserves.
We face a world now where our enemies will stop at nothing to divide us because of our values, our freedom, our decency, and frankly, because of our unflinching resolve towards the brave people of Ukraine.

And so, under this attack, it is vital that we remember the greatness of the Britain all around us; that while we debate how to fix our problems, there is something we inherit from our country and our character that can give us confidence that we can change our country for the better; that we can create a Britain where every child can go as far as their talent will take them, and we can unite different people under our common flag if we don’t succumb to that division.

Ann Widdecombe
Ann Widdecombe, former Tory MP and Reform UK member, dies aged 78
Widdecombe was a prominent Eurosceptic and known for her socially conservative views

Press Association
Fri 10 Jul 2026 07.52 CESTShe consistently argued against an equal age of consent for same-sex relationships, voting against a 1994 act (which would have reduced the age of consent for some male-male sexual activity from 21 to 18), and in 1998 (arguing against a further reduction from 18 to 16, which later occurred in 2000).[10] On the latter act, she wrote in The Mail on Sunday that "one of the sundry horrors for which this Government is likely to be remembered will be that it gave its imprimatur to sodomy at 16",[52] She later said in 2000: "I do not believe that issues of equality should override the imperatives of protecting the young."[53] In 2003, Widdecombe opposed the repeal of Section 28 of the Local Government Act 1988.[54] In 2012, Widdecombe voiced support in the Daily Express for the practise of conversion therapy, which claims to change the orientation of homosexuals.[55]

Admitting up front that the only reason this by-election is happening is because he didn't know how to respond to the media over his corruption and brazening it out wasn't working
If there’s a daily media pile-on saying that I’m dishonest on this, that or the other, it leaves me in a position of paralysis. So I’ve done this to try and break that.

The extent of the co-ordination of the pile-on had left us slightly in a state of paralysis – that could have gone on for months. What if [the parliamentary commissioner for standards, who is investigating the donation] doesn’t answer until October?

CAMILLA TOMINEY: You were quite pro-trans. You’ve appeared in campaigns and things. I mean, do you think a woman can have a penis? Because you did previously. It’s an important question for a health secretary to answer.

CAMILLA TOMINEY: So you’ve changed your mind.

JAMES MURRAY: Yes.

CAMILLA TOMINEY: Why have you changed your mind?

JAMES MURRAY: Well, I think a lot of us have been thinking about this issue over recent years. And, you know, I wouldn’t now say that, for instance, trans women are women. I think that biological sex is important.

Jul 3 2026 - 12:04am 5 minsBut not much has been said about one unexpected implication of the bill: that conversion practices involving straight people are just as harmful as those involving gay or trans ones. The intention to cause a heterosexual or “cis” person to become homosexual or trans is to be treated in just as draconian a manner as the inverse case. In theory at least, progressive parents who preach the gospel of gender affirmation a little too enthusiastically risk criminal investigation later, when their children have second thoughts — a possibility which, you have to admit, is darkly funny. The idea that there might also be criminal liability for the hundreds of lanyard-wearing youth workers out there, still working very hard to cement the idea of medical and social transition into deeply unworldly heads, is even more delicious.

Homophobe at far-right event fails to stand up against islamophobia in another shocking and unexpected development that in no way reveals her character.
At one point, Anderson claimed that Forbes had been treated "grossly unfairly" due to her Christian beliefs.

Speaking about Yousaf, he went on to say the SNP leadership contest had gone "in favour of somebody who was probably every bit as committed to those views, and even more hardline, but happened to be of a different faith".

Anderson added: "Let's be honest, he was a Muslim."

This statement went unchallenged by Forbes.

Wanted to check what the Truth Social response was to Trump's latest claims that he's about to win the Iran war, again. Instead, what I found was this as his latest post. Media acceptance of just how unhinged he is on that platform actually results in sanitising and sane-washing his output.

Donald J. Trump

@realDonaldTrump

Based on a very quick and boring briefing concerning the Magot Hagerman book about me, it is mostly made up, Fake News, largely fiction, as have been most of the things she has written about me for so many years. She is a third rate writer and intellect, who has made a first rate income because of your favorite President, ME. She was wrong about me on the Elections, although she knew I was going to win, BIG! She was wrong about me on the Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax, and she was wrong about me on just about everything else. But she continues to spew out garbage, and people continue to buy it. REMEMBER, I WON THE ELECTION, BIG - ALL SEVEN SWING STATES, THE POPULAR VOTE, 86% of the Counties…And they don’t have the audio tapes that they imply they have. Just another Margot Con Job! And Iran will never have a Nuclear Weapon!!! President DONALD J. TRUMP

*Goes digging into my old dissertation* Here it is! There's actually a stronger basis under Islamic theology for support for democratic movements and power from below than most major religions. Tunisia in 2011 is a strong example of Islamic democratic principles in politics.
This fear may well be justified, but the large Islamist parties which have formed the
governments of Egypt and Tunisia, and are present in coalition in Libya, are moderate ones. Salafist
parties may be strong, but remain smaller minorities. Although these moderate parties support
interpretations of Sharia law, how this law interacts with democracy may be far from the perception
of a western audience. The theologian Yusuf al-Qaradawi set out a recent fatwa underlining this
compatibility. He defined democracy as: “a system of governance whereby the people choose who
will govern and represent them”, involving a law limiting the ruler and embodying the “principle of
majority rule.” (ibid. 40)
Most significantly, he underlined the five core values of Islam, which may surprise a western
audience. They are: “justice, freedom, equality, consultation/participation, and
accountability/responsibility”, and he lists them as amongst the Islamic ideas which can guide,
rather than dictate, an Islamic democracy. With this surprisingly liberal interpretation of Islam and
democracy, is must be seen how in Egypt and Tunisia these values have been presented. This success could not have been more evidenced than in the words of the new rulers of
Tunisia. In his inauguration speech the new Tunisian President, Moncef Marzouki paid tribute to
the importance of popular will in the new Tunisian parliament, “this place which embodies the
sovereignty of the people” against the “tyrants who forgot that the will of the people is second to
none but the will of Allah.” With this statement he also paid tribute to the importance of political
Islamism. This sentiment was echoed by his Prime Minister, Hamadi Jebali, who declared that
“despite the challenges, our country has preserved its civil character and attachment to democratic
principles, all based on an Islamic reference.” Unlike their Egyptian counterparts, and with
surprising political wisdom, this all came after both made a decisive statement in support of
republican democracy:
Marzouki: “Our mission is to lay deep and solid foundations [...] to build a civil democratic
republic and a tolerant pluralistic society which will eventually fully embody the principles of
freedom, justice, and equality.” “We must protect the women who don the niqab and the hijab, as
well as the women who wear no veils. We must protect the demonstrators as well as the institutions
against which they demonstrate.”
Jebali emphasised “freedom as a fundamental value and the sanctity of human rights."

What you see here is a stock being absolutely desperately propped up above the $150 mark because investors know that if it drops below that the bottom might fall out. It's already down from its first day ($161). The next big break would be $135, 10% down, the original offering price.

Critical support for Mike Tapp embarrassing Shabana Mahmood just as she's trying to nail down her role hunting migrants under Andy Burnham. Anyone who damages her chances of staying in Government is an ally right now.

Minister unwise to write unauthorised article about home secretary's immigration reforms - whip
In other news, the home secretary, Shabana Mahmood, has demanded one of her ministers, Mike Tapp, be sacked after he wrote an unauthorised article in the Times calling for overseas care workers to be exempt from her hardline immigration changes.

Downing Street has resisted immediately sacking Tapp, the immigration minister, who is accused of breaching the ministerial code by his actions.

Justice minister and whip Jake Richards told Times Radio this morning that it would ultimately be up to the prime minister, Keir Starmer, whether to sack Tapp, but said it was unwise for the minister to “freestyle” in the way he did.The ministerial code says the principle of collective responsibility requires that ministers should be able to express their views frankly in the expectation they can argue freely in private while maintaining a united front when decisions have been reached.

A source close to Mahmood said: “Mike Tapp is expected to be sacked for breaching the ministerial code. He has taken possible ideas that the home secretary and her team were working on, and briefed them as his own to try to win a job in the new administration.”4h ago

Mike Tapp says he 'won't be intimidated' to 'drop his views' over unsanctioned article
In response to the ongoing controversy, immigration minister Mike Tapp, who was a strong backer of Keir Starmer, wrote in a post on X this morning:

Ok, morning all. It’s gone from ‘he broke the ministerial code’ to ‘he stole my idea’.

I have put my views across on a policy I’ve been working on for months (I have the receipts) in an Op Ed in the times. Give it a read, and let’s continue to discuss.

I won’t be intimidated to drop my views. Stay classy! Oh and I’m at a wedding in San Francisco, but happy to talk more when I’m back (I promise that’s the Golden Gate Bridge hidden by the fog).

That'll do. Biggest issue I had with a question: "Having 'human rights' means nothing if you are poor and starving." Food is a human right. Refuse the premise.
