And it’s not the cake’s fault. It didn’t change. It was still the same cake you couldn’t get enough of. It only did what it was made to do. It served its purpose. Sometimes, I feel like that cake.

Another day passes, and you finally throw the last piece away. Your love for double chocolate fudge cake has somehow turned into contempt. You’ve simply had too much.

The chocolate tastes too bitter. The frosting is too sweet. Eating it has become a chore, and it actually makes you feel sick. You cut the slices smaller, but somehow you still can’t bring yourself to finish your plate.

You want to enjoy every last bite before it goes bad. Eventually, you’re staring at the three slices you have left. And suddenly, something has changed.

You eat a huge slice for dessert, then have some for breakfast the next morning because you’re an adult and you do what you want. You follow every meal with another slice because it’s so damn good.
