I have no idea what the unspoken plot twist was in this thread and less so, the amount I really care to find out...

I haven’t seen it illustrated like this before. Very effective messaging. Of course it actually depends a lot on how fast the vehicle’s being driven, how big the vehicle is and how it’s designed, and how small the victims (too often kids) are. Via @yegbike.bsky.social #SpeedKills #CarBloat

Kids often respond to "How was school?" with "Fine." Here's why that happens and how parents can spark more meaningful conversations with their children about their day:

What problems don't feel satisfying to solve if you can look back at them with a gleeful "Poo poo kaka"? I let my kids get away with something mildly offensive to help them channel road rage. But that means I have to achieve some overtaking along the way... much harder in these days of sickness.

It's very difficult when addressing a sensitive topic. If you say nothing, it can be assumed that indifference is at play. Say something and you appear like a jerk. I'll risk appearing like a jerk (occasionally that's true!).

Hoi Maaike. Just an Internet stranger who can do nothing to help your medical health situation. I just want to send a vague notion of love and support to you and say that having kids is great some of the time, ok a lot of the time & an utter nuisance the rest of the time. I guess I'm lucky to say so

I could've bought a new, small car for the same price I paid for the eCargobike. It was a bit shocking to me frankly and I owned from new an S-Bike road racing machine 🤯. But I'm comfortable with the value proposition.

Made this change nearly two years ago. A hatred of burning fossil fuels and understanding how that affects daily life helps, plus being able to afford a nasty price tag for a high quality e-bike. Helps me feel more connected to my community and honest when I lament laziness in not taking the bike

Is it possible that the chocolate brand behind this little roasting is in fact Tony Chocolonelys? You can lick the outside of the packaging and taste the earnestness from there. 😋

Easy to simply downgrade an original pic taken at a typical color depth and convert it into an 8 bit black and white image. I'd use Photoshop for this but am sure there are online tools that provide this function at zero marginal cost.

...powerful & unaccountable for executing their orders to dominate a cross-section of the population. Unless you have reliable infrastructure to keep accountability in place... It was the same returning from life in Riyadh, of letting go of the assumption you were being surveilled anytime. No peace

I remember returning into Europe from my first visit into Moscow and the unavoidable feeling was of returning safety, of NOT being within 10m at any moment from a Police/Army/Secret Police officer. I don't fear "bad guys". I fear weaponised dudes with an inferiority complex who feel suddenly...

I recognize if I'm riding at full speed on my cargobike and the rain cover is on, it looks big and intimidating. So I work hard to not give the impression I'm creating a pavement SUV relationship with other sidewalk users. "I'm not here to threaten you!"

You seem very angry. Did I trip into your views at a bad time for you personally? 😬 Look me up if you ever find yourself visiting the NRW state in Germany. Can't promise we wouldn't argue a bit but of the many things I am, petty isn't something that gets fired at me that often. OK 👍🏼

I can go one of two ways with this. Conflict or patience. I think I'm going to opt for indifference which might look like patience. I have no sense of historical tourism rates to the US & totally don't care. Grateful to have been able to visit a few times on business TX CA AZ & as a tourist NY. Fun

Tricky Dicky @trickydickybe.bsky.social · 09/08/2025
Oef. Your arguments are all over the place. You even make assumptions about what I'm assuming (nothing really). All US'ers think this, all European's think this... reality is a bit more nuanced isn't it? You want immigration or tourism stats, then I'd point you towards a search engine

I think the statistics show I'm not the only person who's reached that conclusion. Maybe different reasons but I'm sure that avoiding the stench of authoritarianism is pretty central. "Don't assume"

"We have healthcare". Do you really? Any exceptions to that? Any characteristics the excluded have in common, gateway factors? When I visit NYC and see so many ppl begging to be able to pay medical bills, or hear ppl fund raising to pay off medical debt, or opting for dangerous quackery. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I added the Japanese Crane bell to my c/gobike. It's loud enough to be heard but has a sympathetic tone so as not to be interpreted as aggressive or threatening. I have a flat deck tarpaulin but rarely use it, preferring the rain cover. Depends on my cargo

Not sure what I've lost here. Why do US citizens run for horse tranquilizers as a symptom treatment for CV19 (Invermectin)? No doubt there are books and books written comparing merits of different approaches to funding healthcare. This isn't supposed to be a long form, in-depth debating platform.

That'll be $1M please... #Horrified Can't help but post this as a European who's experienced universal and publicly insured healthcare nearly all his life. Can't find any other narrative that makes sense of US equivalent than a way of targeting poverty and sickness. Slavery mentality.

This is purely anecdotal, all artisanal data from yours truly, but kids today seem way overscheduled and yet are often not allowed to just... hang out with friends and be bored and whatever. It feels like kids are more controlled and wrangled and kept "protected." So this kinda tracks? YMMV.

I went somewhere very similar last week in Austria. The Lichtenstein Klamm. Loved it. The torrential rain on the way back to the car in the parking lot took some very deliberate smiling to get through but fortunately my fam kept their disapproval to themselves.

This iconic Fabian Todorovic cartoon is still one of the best I’ve seen at illustrating the remarkable amount of space we surrender to cars, leaving little space left for everyone and everything else. The text added later makes the bonus point that many drivers still manage to complain about it.

That's the nature of risk isn't it? When you've got something to lose the consequences of the risk are much higher. When you've not got any skin in the game, you have less fear about taking bigger risks more quickly...?

Don't underestimate the burgeoning power and accuracy of facial recognition software. I'm sure you've considered it but probably against the backdrop that it's not so effective yet. That's going to radically change with additional computing power and public acceptance of the tech. It gets closer.

Tour de France finishing line race officials are now getting over enthusiastic about tackling people at the end of the stage. We've had two legit rugby tackles but today's incident was too much - nearly knocking the yellow jersey and world champion off his bike!!

Give him my wheel from my daughter's Puky Skyride 24/3 and a heft push. It'll get him 10m further up the hill and waste a minimum of ten minutes. Suspect Shimano neutral service would be a better option but my push would be stronger

Most of the heat energy is in the rotor and rims I think. Swapping to disc brakes was one of the changes that made my mountain riding much faster and more fun, less crashing stress

I completely blew out a wired Tyre on the descent from Les Duex Alpes, carbon rims and Ultegra rim brakes with specified Reynolds brake pads. Scary moment 💩 Last time I rode with rim brakes in the mountains (apart from a little flirt with ridged Alu rims from Mavic which worked well but #BikeTheft

But can it shoot the brains out of drivers who might make the enforcement system feel a bit nervous after a lifetime of negative framing/bias?
000
Tricky Dicky @trickydickybe.bsky.social · 25/07/2025
Dragging brakes on any bike, on any long descent, is a very dangerous thing to do. The pads, rotors and calipers heat very quickly but thankfully they can cool 100 degrees very quickly too, so an /ON /OFF approach is typically the safest one to take (sorry not trying to mansplain).
