A man on Facebook just accused me of sexually abusing children because of this post.

This is a hard one to get the "stop shoving it in our faces" crowd to understand or care about, for some reason.

If I say "we want to keep LGBTQIA+ kids safe by making sure they know it's okay to be who they are", they say "why KIDS, there's no such thing as a gay kid, GROOMER".

If I say "well, I knew I was queer growing up in the 90s without having any queer adults in my life that I knew of," they dismiss it.

If I say "studies show that acceptance lowers suicidal ideation in queer kids", I get "PROVE IT!" even when I've directly cited the specific studies.

If I say that the lack of acceptance is part of why I was suicidal as a teenager myself, well then I'm mentally ill and any argument I make is invalid going forward.

There's really no winning.

Oh my god, I think I did it. I think I did not get sunburned for once. I reapplied sunscreen so many fucking times. I used two different kinds and made sure that it was 50 SPF on the higher sun areas.

10 fucking years ago today. I had two living grandparents. Donald Trump had never been president, and was obviously never GOING to be, there was no way. And that room was full of family, instead of empty, walls bare. Weltschmerz.

They link "virus is spreading" to the CDC surveillance page. You have to click at least a couple of times to actually get to any data. Which shows it's very low. Scroll down and you'll see just how small the "ramping up" has been so far this year.

If you're in MA, just to be clear, there is no "surge" equivalent to the usual summer uptick. Last year's late-summer "surge" was ~1400 PMMoV at this time (less than half of 2024's); we're at a tenth of that. I'm still paying attention and it's *not* ramping up here in the same way as in the past.
