The Resident Evil movie made me so paranoid about whether you can shoot locks and other obstacles in survival horror games that it took me several hours before I finally tried shooting a padlock in Silver Pines.

I gotta finish Silver Pines before Tenebris Somnia comes out.

I've been playing this game and it's constantly impressing me so far. It's the best version of "Silent Hill as a metroidvania." I can't get over how gorgeous the environments are. Every area tells a bit of story about the town.

He looks like he's about to send you cheesy movies, the worst he can find.

Silver Pines is really good.

its so funny seeing early scenes where they're not fuckin with 21 lol

Henchman 21 from Venture Bros thinking "They don't know how much I wanna pork Doctor Girlfriend." Doctor Girlfriend thinking "Gary's thinking about porking me again." Meanwhile The Monarch is ranting about the guy from DEPECHE MODE.

I will say this about reference humor: they tend to be better on shows written by one or two guys instead of a whole writers room. Shows like NTBTS and Venture Bros. They have more specific reference pools that reflect the creators' personal interests instead of just general pop culture.

1604

Same goes with reference humor. The difference between when Rick and Morty explains every pop culture reference as they're doing it vs. when Nirvanna the Band the Show does it is that NTBTS does it well.

If it's bad, you just say "this has whedon/focus m dialogue" and if it's good you're like "this has whedon/focus m dialogue but here's why they don't bother me" followed by an explanation that just amounts to "it was well executed"

1491

The problem with "Whedon Dialogue" and "Focus M" critiques is that a) people can't agree on what counts as those, and b) it really depends on execution at the end of the day.

I think what the Hellraiser game is confirming for me, unfortunately, is that shock value only goes so far without atmosphere and tension. Yes, naked mutilated corpses are horrifying but I've seen scarier chase scenes in Poppy Playtime with monsters that kids buy plushies of.

A thing I'm noticing in the Hellraiser game is that nudity is very visible in the game's gore but are covered up when people are having sex. Dicks and nipples are seen on corpses and monsters but in sex scenes the people wear BDSM gear that cover them up.

I've been listening to the Penguin Discworld audiobooks. Peter Serafinowicz does a really good Death.

And this bit from Mort where Terry Pratchett does a cross cut in book form then explains to you that he was doing a cross cut in book form.

One of my favorite bits of prose from Discworld is from Reaper Man, where "The sky flickered like a bad special effect from a time travel movie."

Oh yeah Silver Pines is out now too damn.

I'm glad that the murder sex cult that kills and mutilates people in the Hellraiser game practices safe sex.

There are some really cool visuals in the Hellraiser game that I cannot share because they are not safe for anywhere lol

Baby Torturer may sound like an evil job, but really all they do is play with a toy near the baby and not let them touch it.

I didn't even know about rakugo back then, I just knew it as a joke. I think i found out it was a rakugo story because it was referenced in a phoenix wright case?

HE'S DOING TIME SOBA! I have literally told Time Soba in a joke-telling contest when I was a kid, holy shit.

For the most part, nobody in a parasocial relationship knows they're in a parasocial relationship. One person doesn't know the other exists, while the other thinks they love the other person at a healthy, normal distance.

She wants them to kiss and date so bad

Let's give him a chance. Maybe he'll do great.

Hopefully that's a problem for when I'm 90, but still you never know.
