58. Metropolis (1927)
The set design is the biggest appeal. Great, brutal, futuristic depictions of labor exploitation. The visual of the workers being swallowed by Moloch was beautiful.
The acting was very stage-camp, which can feel silly. But the lead actress knocked it out of the park.
