Sad to see all these states with such early deadlines to vote. In Colorado you can register to vote up to and even on Election Day (but then have to vote in person). Check your state’s Secretary of State office (or equivalent if you live in one of the fake “commonwealth” states) for full details.

I've carried that decision for seventeen years.

Today I work on Army autonomy programs. The technology is moving fast, and with every gain it gets more tempting to hand the machine a little more of the decision. Modern War Institute published my take on where that line should be.

The short version:
• Let AI find, track, and fuse sensor data. It probably would have helped me that day.
• Keep a human making the decision to use lethal force against people. If we ever hand that to a machine, it should be rare, tightly controlled, and approved at the highest levels.
• A human who just approves what the machine already decided isn't real oversight. That protection has to be built into the system.

PE classes were required each semester at the Naval Academy. Most of the instructors were coaches from the various sports. The head of heavyweight rowing taught some PE classes, which he took as permission to call himself “Professor.” These guys are insane. Literal head injury brain damage stuff.

I feel like it's important to have daily contact with non-humans. Dogs, yes, cats, yes, but also plants--especially catci--urns or whatever, the glass on windows. Be aware of the furniture you're sitting in. Make a note of the things you touch, and how it feels to touch them.
