A pair of Cleveland Works switchers pull a hot metal train with molten iron splashing out of a bottle car. Steel mills are wild! And that sunset was pretty nice too.

A view from the end of the platform at Hoboken Terminal at sunset.
A NJ Transit Geep passes under the signal tower, while the coach yard shops are visible in the distance and the sun is coloring the sky shades of yellow with catenary crisscrossing above the viewer.

Here’s a photo from a mostly empty parking garage in Springfield. I parked here for the New England Prototype Modelers Meet, and had to stay for a few extra minutes to take photos. I love neat brutalist setting (at least aesthetically - they often have lots of usability problems from poor design).

A view from the shadow of a grain elevator looking across the Maumee River towards another grain elevator and a railway bridge in Toledo. I like the little fan protecting shrouds on the Geep switcher in the center. And the roof mounted “torpedo tubes” air tanks are a neat historic detail.

Here’s a few photos from a small road trip to Maine for the Big Gay Car Show. We got lucky with a nice sunset in Concord NH on the way up at some cool power line pylons.

I want to try this shot again with more time/stamina, and my “real” camera and tripod. This is a black and white photo of my friend’s Mazda3 in an old industrial loading dock alley with brick and corrugated metal.

I really wish I’d known enough at the time to do some bandaid fixes to my Impreza wagon and kept her on the road for another year. I could have done a much smarter job searching for my new replacement Honda Fit, and I maybe could have done more affordable rust repairs to the Suby instead.

I’m looking cute for Anime Boston this weekend. I’m using my backup scooter, and it’s been serving me well so far, especially with the extra cushion on the seat. This is my favorite aesthetic to wear, though I’m also fond of more vibrant colors sometimes.
A mirror selfie of a demigirl in teal and purple color block pants, a pastel purple t-shirt with a cartoon frog on it, a pink multicolor sweater, and a hair bow on the back of their head. A mirror selfie of a femme person sitting in a lightweight mobility scooter with a colorful pastel outfit and a teal frog ita bag backpack in the front basket.

Here’s a view from October 5, 2019, of the CSX Worcester Massachusetts intermodal yard and the MBTA coach yard to the far right, with the city skyline behind them. I love taking fully backlit shots with the sun in them, like this. They do interesting things to the look of the light.
This is a photo looking towards the sun with starburst rays coming out of the sun from the narrow aperture of the camera. The colors are distorted with the sky looking greenish fading to yellow at the horizon, and the train yard is golden-tinted with light reflecting off the trains and rails and pavement.

Here’s another car photo as I’m deep diving into car enthusiasm. I love my Honda Fit, “Tippy”.
A head on view of a blue Honda Fit parked in front of and below a repurposed old brick mill building. The former loading dock doors at ground level have been covered with corrugated blue metal, and the windows on the upper floor are reflecting the color of the blue sky.

This pair of photos was from Worcester, Mass, shot through the chain link fence on Franklin Street overlooking the CSX intermodal yard and Worcester Union Station. I was experimenting with using the otherwise obnoxious fence as a textural element. Full set on Flickr: flickr.com/photos/30929...

This very busy Chicago L diamond and tower is well documented for good reason, and I had fun here. This was a perfect spot for my ultra wide angle lens, and I bet a super wide fisheye would be even cooler here.

Some handheld night photos from the Chicago Ogilvie Transportation Center station. I wish I’d used my tripod for a couple of these, but the noise from the idling F40s was deafening and I could barely stand that overstimulation so I got in and out pretty quickly. These feel very “me” in style.

Special early photo post from a Chicago photo set I’m still editing, just because I’m excited about this batch. Also this is an example of what digital offers that would be very challenging to accomplish with analog photography

That constant waffling between “was I brilliant?” and “this is nothing” when editing photos is a rush. I’m always experimenting with my art, and it takes a while to figure out which of those experiments came out well. Sometimes I don’t figure that out until months after posting something.

I’ve been experimenting with mediocre car photography lately. Here’s a mini set of my Honda Fit taken after I got home from a drive in a snow storm. Unlike my usual approach, I just lazily edited these on my phone, so they’re a bit crude, but I like the vibes anyways. I wish I’d grabbed my DSLR.

It’s been really fun learning about cars, as a nice bit of variety from trains. I do love all kinds of vehicles, after all. Anyways, here’s a beauty I saw at an office nearby recently:

Working through my Chicago photos has been fun. I still have tens of thousands of shots in my backlog, so it’s a good thing I enjoy the editing process, even if I am slow at it. Here’s a shot from Chicago in 2024. I am in love with the patterns of those double slip switches.

This is a small set of photos from my 2024 Chicago trip, with the L in the foreground and the cityscape in the distance. In the second shot, an arc from the third rail lit up the buildings in the middle. The third shot shows the conductor fighting with a faulty wheelchair lift after unloading me.
A long exposure shot blurs two passing Chicago L passenger trains in the foreground to the left. The background of the photo shows the lit up nighttime skyline of the Chicago cityscape. The middle of the photo is dark shadows. The Chicago cityscape is lit up in the background of this shot. In the middle, an electric arc from the passing train lights up some building with teal light. In the middle and foreground a Chicago L train is lit up with red lights from the signals. A Metra bi-level train is stopped at a station, with green tinted windows. The conductor is fighting with a stuck faulty wheelchair lift that he’s pulling on. This black and white close up photo shows the fluted stainless steel side of a Metra bi-level coach with mottled trees reflecting on the car.
