On an essay exam today many many students used the expression "people groups" to refer to minority communities. I've never seen that expression before. Are they picking it up from chatgpt? I did find it on a missionary website. Could they all be getting it from there?

I just got the most positive book review of my career...of my Under the Greenwood Tree: A Celebration of Kentucky Shakespeare....from the Shakespeare Bulletin. I've felt sort of like an imposter with this book in this field so this sort of made me tear up!!

sign of hope: in 2 out of 3 of my classes today, my explanation of why I don't allow AI use in my class was met with at least one student expressing an even more hostile view of its use than mine (largely on the "let's not kill the planet" theme but also "because I want to learn something.")

I thought AI programs were supposed to create an original piece every time. Three students turned in essentially the same (bad) essay for the final paper assignment. All have the same fabricated evidence in them. how does that even happen??

Ugh students are using ai to generate (I won't call it writing) their final exam essays. I keep seeing the same odd phrasing and obscure, not quite right examples over and over. Back to in person exams on paper I provide. I can't wait to retire.
