The Chauncey DeVega Show: Ep. 454: As President Trump Feels Increasingly Imperiled, His Authoritarian Grip Will Only Tighten
This is a special joint episode of The Chauncey DeVega Show and The Truth Report. Steve Cash is Executive Director of , a nonprofit advocacy organization whose members are former senior national security officials. He previously served as Senior Advisor to the Under Secretary for Intelligence & Analysis at the Department of Homeland Security and as Chief of Staff to the Director of Intelligence at the Department of Energy. Cash was deeply involved in drafting much of the legislation that followed the 9/11 attacks, including the USA PATRIOT Act, the Department of Homeland Security Act, and the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act, which created the position of Director of National Intelligence. He also served as an intelligence officer with the CIA. Cash analyzes Trump’s recent “election security” speech to the nation and how its allegation that hostile foreign actors stole the 2020 presidential election for Democrats, and other false claims fit into the Big Lie strategy to rig upcoming elections and undermine American democracy. Steve Cash also offers advice about courage and personal responsibility to pro-democracy Americans and others who have already been — or may soon be — targeted by the Trump administration and placed on enemies lists because they have protested or exercised other constitutionally protected rights, including freedom of speech.

Gloria Steinem pushed open doors not just for herself, but for literally millions of women behind her.

She wasn’t going to be an astronaut, but she made it possible for Sally Ride to be an astronaut. She wasn’t going to play college sports, but she stood behind the women in Congress who passed Title IX. And she wasn’t on the Supreme Court when Roe v. Wade was decided, but her voice and her activism was behind that advancement for women's rights.

Gloria was, at heart, an optimist. Her activism was rooted in optimism, and that’s a moral choice she made every day.

I want her voice to remain in our heads. It’s wonderful to do what you can to further your own future, to get the best education you can, and to pursue your dreams. But it’s even better to bring other people along with you.
