Tim’s Slow Readers Club suits up for Fight Me by Austin Grossman. One of the author blurbs is “Breakfast Club meets the Avengers”, which is spot on. It’s really good until the end, but runs out of steam. Still good. 👍 👍

Speaking of crazy things in CBD offices, here’s the transom window control for the men’s bathroom at the old Whitney main office. Turn the knob to raise the pole to move the lever. 😉 I cannot imagine working in those buildings pre AC.

New Orleanians! Americans! Today is the day! 211 years ago, a mishmashed group of men snatched victory from the jaws of defeat! New Orleans could be drinking tea and speaking better English today, if the British had their way. 😉

Tim’s Slow Readers Club moves on. Who is Government - The Untold Story of Public Service, edited by Michael Lewis is a series of essays on government workers. I’m not an unbiased observer here. The book is great. It will make you laugh and cry (especially the last story. 👍👍

Tim’s Slow Readers list rolls on. The anniversary of the execution of Ney reminded me i just finished @bri74.bsky.social ‘s Marshal Ney - Fall from Glory. Lots of tidbits I didn’t know. Ney’s always the right guy in the right place, or the worst guy at the wrong time, with little in-between. 👍👍

I’m laughing. Sitting watching the new Superman movie. I had left the theater to use the facilities at the show, so I missed the credits which I typically hang around for. And this comes up when I rewatch. 😉

Happy birthday to the Emperor of the French, Napoleon Bonaparte! Doesn’t look a day over 256 years old. 😉 Love him or hate him, we’re still talking about him, his impact then, and his impacts upon our world now.

Tim’s Slow Readers stabs ahead 😉 Today’s entry is @robwhart.bsky.social Assassin’s Anonymous. Lots of action, snark, and a small amount of redemption. There’s already a sequel out. A fun, easy read. 👍👍

226 yrs ago, French soldiers were clearing rubble from a collapsed building. Capt. Bouchard says “Wait a minute, guys. What’s those scribbles on that rock?” With that, a new field of archeology is born. All thanks to Napoleon being stubborn, opportunistic, & forward thinking 😉

Another Tim’s Slow Readers Club. Money, Power, and the People by Christopher W. Shaw. It’s primarily about banking in the 1900-1930’s. The topic caught my eye b/c of my work & being a history nerd. While interesting at times to me, it’s a slog of a read. Certain points are beaten until dead. 👍

I’m always late on these, but I enjoyed Captain America #14. The writing where depth is given to characters. Where there’s a backstory you never knew, but resonates when you read it. All wrapped up in a semi-return of a Warriors Three tale. 👍👍
